Sky Sports Man Offers Ward-Prowse to West Ham Update

West Ham United are expected to "continue to push" for James Ward-Prowse and the midfielder is "keen to move" to the Hammers this summer, according to Sky Sports' Dharmesh Sheth.

Is Ward-Prowse joining West Ham?

One-club men are few and far between in modern football and there will likely be one fewer this summer as Southampton's James Ward-Prowse edges closer to leaving St Mary's Stadium.

Following a dismal season of football on the south coast which saw Southampton demoted to the Championship for the first time since the 2011/12 campaign, there will be the usual exodus of top talent that takes place after relegation.

Romeo Lavia could be set for a move to Liverpool for Liverpool in a deal worth somewhere close to £50m and the Saints' other most lucrative asset Ward-Prowse is also set for a Southampton exit.

West Ham have a well-documented interest in the 28-year-old and are incredibly eager to accelerate their push for the England international, but Southampton are holding firm on their current £40-50m valuation of the midfielder.

However, according to Sheth, Ward-Prowse is eager to make the switch to West Ham, potentially making a move for the midfielder a more realistic prospect for last season's Europa League Conference winners.

Speaking on the Transfer Talk podcast, Sheth stated: "It looks likely he will go. West Ham have held talks with Southampton over the potential signing of James Ward-Prowse. West Ham will continue to push. No fee agreed as yet.

"Ward-Prowse, though, we understand he is keen to move to the London Stadium. So, I think West Ham are getting a bit of encouragement on that side of it. Personal terms, not expected to be a problem on this one.

"He didn't feature in that pre-season friendly that I told you about that Romeo Lavia did feature in against Bournemouth, and that was as a precaution because he had a knee injury. A precaution…we'll leave it at that."

Sheth implies that Ward-Prowse may have been rested to protect him from picking up a knock or serious injury that would scupper a potential sale.

West Ham need serious reinforcements in the centre of the park following the departure of Declan Rice and have £105m to reinvest in the squad. Ward-Prowse may not be the only midfielder that arrives at the London Stadium this transfer window.

Ward-Prowse would be a useful addition for David Moyes and he still managed nine goals and four assists in the Premier League last season. The midfielder now has 11 caps for England, netting twice in those games, and is entering the prime years of his career.

How have West Ham fared in pre-season?

Following a dream end to last season that ended in European glory for the Irons, Moyes has the challenge of refocusing minds ahead of a new campaign.

A positive pre-season always helps and the Hammers have already played four times, winning three and drawing one in some high-scoring affairs.

The Hammers started with a 4-1 win over Boreham Wood before heading on their pre-season tour of Australia. They managed a 6-2 win over Perth Glory and a 3-2 victory over London rivals Tottenham Hotspur down under, before returning to the UK for a 2-2 draw with Dagenham and Redbridge.

One man who has enjoyed a wonderful pre-season is 18-year-old Divin Mubama, who has found the back of the net three times already and has been incredibly impressive so far.

West Ham have still got games against Rennes and Bayer Leverkusen to come before their Premier League season opener against Bournemouth.

But it will be interesting to see if any new faces could take part in those games before the start of the new campaign.

Read's record adds lustre to crushing Notts win

Chris Read set a new wicket-keeping record for Nottinghamshire as they moved closer to promotion with an innings defeat of Derbyshire

Jon Culley at Derby09-Aug-2017It is every retiring cricketer’s wish to leave the game in a winning moment and the fulfillment of that aspiration is within touching distance for Chris Read now after Nottinghamshire escaped the ravages of the weather to complete a comprehensive win over their nearest neighbours.Brett Hutton delivered the key performance with the ball against Derbyshire, taking five wickets for the second time in the match.Read, Notts’ veteran wicketkeeper and captain, may not have a third Championship to celebrate when he plays his final first-class match next month but promotion as champions from Division Two would not be a bad consolation, particularly with the Royal London One-Day Cup already in the trophy cabinet. Not to forget a potential Nottinghamshire tilt at the NatWest Blast, even if Read himself has retired from that format. With a lead of 50 points over third-placed Northamptonshire and four matches remaining, it is hard to imagine any other outcome to Read’s valedictory year, from which he will also take the Nottinghamshire record for most wicketkeeping dismissals, which he claimed with the first of his two catches on the final afternoon. It took him to 968 victims, overtaking Thomas Oates, born not too far from here in the mining town of Eastwood, who numbered 967 in a career that ran from 1897 to 1925. The breakdown of those figures reflects how different the game is today. Of Oates’s total, 744 were catches and 223 stumpings, compared with 924 catches and just 44 stumpings by Read.Read, on the eve of his 39th birthday, looked no less mobile behind the stumps than he did when he made his Nottinghamshire debut in 1998, diving to his right to grasp the ball as Mark Footitt induced an edge from Gary Wilson.”I’ve been aware of the milestone and it is an honour of which I’m immensely proud because Thomas Oates clearly played a lot of cricket and was a great servant to the club,” Read said, admitting that his last season could hardly be progressing better.”I’m ecstatic with the way things are going. We set ourselves some aims and goals and so far we are going a long way to achieving those. Primarily that is getting promotion to Division One, and we are in a good position to do that, while winning the 50-over competition was brilliant.”To win this game after losing a day and a session was a tremendous effort. Alex Hales’ knock on day two was phenomenal but the headlines should belong to Brett Hutton, who got more out of the pitch than anyone else in both innings.”It was bitterly disappointing to get relegated last year but I’m looking forward to finishing off in style with promotion and get back to where we belong.”Read, who will leave the professional game to be director of cricket at Uppingham School, is not dwelling on how he might feel when the curtain does finally come down for good.”No I’m not thinking about it massively,” he said. “We know we have to keep putting in the performances and after the T20 group stages and quarter-finals are out of the way we have two massive home games against sides in the top four, so we can’t let any complacency come in.”Aside from Read, the man of the hour for Nottinghamshire was the seamer Hutton, who chose a good moment, given that his team are reaching the climax of the season without three of those bowlers – Stuart Broad, James Pattinson and Luke Fetcher – who were first-choice picks at the beginning, to find his best form.Hutton, who took five for 52 in the first innings, finished with 10 for 126 in the match in his fifth Championship appearance of the year, almost equalling his tally in the first four as Nottinghamshire made sure Hales’s brilliant 218 off 218 balls did not go to waste. In addition to Read, Hutton and Hales, Nottinghamshire ought to raise a glass too to the Derbyshire groundstaff, whose efforts to make the ground fit after 24 hours of almost continuous rainfall gave them 75 overs from one o’clock in which to take the nine wickets needed to complete a sixth win of the season, which they achieved with 12.1 to spare. For the first hour and 20 minutes, it seemed Derbyshire might deny them as Ben Slater and captain Billy Godleman extended their second-wicket partnership, which had reached 31 at the end of day two before rain the weather washed away day three, to 96 without encountering too many problems. But then Slater, drawn into playing at a full length ball from Hutton that swung late, edging to Riki Wessels at second slip, and after Godleman, seven overs later, was superbly caught by a running and diving Hutton at extra cover, pushing at one from left-arm spinner Samit Patel, the innings never recovered. After breaking the Oates record – to give Footitt his fourth wicket of the match against the county that enjoyed his best years so far – Read added another to the collection with a more routine take as a terrific ball from Jake Ball proved too good for Harvey Hosein.Wayne Madsen, coming in at five down after suffering with an upset stomach, was bowled by Hutton off an inside edge and, after Hardus Viljoen had played over one from Ball, Hutton wrapped things up after a small measure of late defiance from the tail, pinning Tom Taylor in front as he played around one and taking out Tony Palladino’s off stump.Godleman, whose side had been denied an almost certain victory over Nottinghamshire by the weather when they went to Trent Bridge earlier in the season, felt his side had played poorly this time.”There was still a small bit in the wicket for the seamers but we felt we were capable of batting it out and saving the game and we should have found a way to not lose the game,” he said.

Chelsea "Really" Appreciate "Fantastic" 19 y/o Ace

Chelsea have been following Flamengo's Matheus Franca for quite some time, with the attacking midfielder "really appreciated", according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

What's the latest Chelsea transfer news?

The Blues are clearly keen on strengthening their attack this summer, with it recently being reported they are preparing to make their first move for Juventus forward Dusan Vlahovic, with an initial bid of at least €65m (£56m) now in the works.

With Kai Havertz joining Arsenal in a deal worth £65m, Mauricio Pochettino could look at signing Lyon's Rayan Cherki as a replacement, and reports from France detail that he could be available for a fee of around £43m this summer.

Transfer insider Dean Jones believes Cherki would be a great addition to Pochettino's squad, and he has suggested the midfielder could be available this summer, recently telling GiveMeSport:

"He’s right on the money when it comes to fitting Chelsea’s profiling and he is a great player, but what makes this one more interesting is that Lyon are open-minded about offers."

Chelsea have their eye on several talented young midfielders, with journalist Ben Jacobs recently telling Football Fancast they may be the club to "move first" for Celta Vigo's Gabri Veiga, despite interest from a number of top Premier League sides.

In an interview with GiveMeSport, Romano has now confirmed that Franca is a target for the Blues, and the transfer expert suggests the Flamengo star would be open to a move to Stamford Bridge, saying: "Matheus Franca is really appreciated. He is a player that they have been following for a long time.

"I can mention that the player will be really excited about the possibility of joining Chelsea."

Who is Matheus Franca?

The 19-year-old from Rio de Janeiro has primarily featured as an attacking midfielder for Flamengo so far, however he has also been given the nod on both wings, and at striker, showcasing his versatility.

Football Scout Jacek Kulig has hailed the Brazilian for his ability to play in multiple positions, saying: "Great midfielder, great striker, he can play almost everywhere. One of the most exciting teenagers in Brazil at the moment."

Kulig has also described the starlet as "fantastic", and it is clear to see why, given the level of some of his performances over the past year, ranking in the 98th percentile for non-penalty goals per 90, when compared to players competing at a similar level.

Not only that, the youngster has also demonstrated he is willing to pitch in with the defensive side of the game, placing in the 81st percentile for tackles completed per 90, and in the 82nd percentile for clearances.

The attacking midfielder's first-team experience is still very limited, and he is yet to test himself in Europe, so he may be regarded as a signing for the future, rather than someone who could make an instant impact at Stamford Bridge.

However, Franca is exhibiting very promising signs in a Flamengo shirt, and he could be a very exciting long-term addition to the squad.

Two "promising" player to join Man United after Romano update

Jack and Tyler Fletcher "will go to Manchester United" this summer with Manchester City looking to sign United's young defender Harrison Parker, claims transfers expert Fabrizio Romano.

Manchester United transfer news – what's the latest on Jack and Tyler Fletcher?

It has been a positive start to the transfer window for the Red Devils, with the club finally completing the signing of Chelsea's Cobham graduate and former fan favourite Mason Mount for a fee of around £55m.

Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount.

David De Gea has also left Old Trafford after 12 years with the side, something that would be a serious problem if the club weren't so close to securing the signature of long-term target and Inter Milan star Andre Onana.

With things looking good from a first-team perspective, the club have also decided to bolster their youth set-up with a double swoop for City's promising youngsters Jack and Tyler Fletcher.

The brothers are, in fact, the sons of United great Darren Fletcher and, at 16, would be swapping the academy of City for United, where their dad works as the club's technical director.

According to the Daily Mail, United have been 'keeping an eye' on the pair for the past few years, but their father has not been involved in the deal to sign them.

The club's move for the brothers has prompted City to respond, with the Sky Blues in the process of bringing highly rated defender Harrison Parker to the other side of Manchester, per transfers expert Fabrizio Romano.

Man United boss Erik ten Hag

He explained the situation on his YouTube channel, saying:

"Jack and Tyler Fletcher, so both players are going from Manchester City to Manchester United and this is something that created this domino effect with Manchester City now prepared to close the deal for Harrison Parker.

"So there is something ongoing between the two Manchester clubs in terms of young talents, but the Fletcher twins will go to Manchester United."

Are the Fletcher brothers highly rated?

The brothers are highly thought of at City, having plied their trade in the club's youth set-up for nine years at this point and have already gone on to represent their national teams at junior level.

Interestingly though, Jack Fletcher represents England's under-16 set-up, having previously represented Scotland, whereas his brother Tyler still represents Scotland's under-16 side.

In a bizarre turn of events, the twin brothers actually played against one another earlier this year when the two nations faced off in a Uefa development match that saw both of them start in midfield, Jack wearing the number 19 and his brother the number eight.

It was Jack who came away with the family bragging rights as the Three Lions won the match 3-0.

Unsurprisingly, both players, who have been described as "promising", take after their father in their playing style, with both of them playing predominantly as central midfielders, the only difference being that Jack is left-footed while Tyler is right-footed.

Darren Fletcher played for United between 2003 and 2015, making 342 appearances, scoring 24 goals, assisting another 30 and winning everything there is to win in club football.

If the twins could match even a fraction of what their father achieved at Old Trafford, then the pair have a very bright future ahead of them.

£375k-p/w Star Wants Man United Stay But Future Unclear

David de Gea wants to stay at Manchester United but his future looks far from certain, journalist David Ornstein has claimed.

What's the latest on David De Gea?

The Spaniard's £375k-per-week contract is set to expire this summer, but whilst an extension previously looked to be on the cards, there is currently no resolution and he could depart for free.

The 32-year-old has come in for criticism following some glaring errors this season, and Erik ten Hag could look to move on from United's longest serving player.

Speaking on Sky Sports News, Ornstein outlined that whilst De Gea is still keen to extend his deal and remain at Old Trafford, he could depart if United choose to replace him.

"It's a huge decision for Manchester United. I think De Gea wants to stay, he intends to report back after the summer break, at which point he'll be out of contract as things stand," he stated.

"Manchester United are not seeing the 30th June as a hard deadline, so they presumably think they could still come to an agreement with him. There were reports recently that the agreement was there, but it doesn't seem that it's there in full and so it presents Manchester United with a massive decision.

"Do they renew him on reduced wages, but still really significant, when he's not the sort of player that Ten Hag is looking for from his goalkeeper, or do they go for somebody else and let him go as a free agent and go for Andre Onana for example, he has been linked or one of a number of keepers that will be gettable.

"So this is a pretty seismic moment for Manchester United and De Gea, and it's gone this far, it looks like he may well leave."

Should Man United keep De Gea?

Although he previously operated at a world-class level for United over the years, it is clear that Ten Hag needs to upgrade on his number one goalkeeper.

De Gea's poor ability on the ball and in the air, which sees him ranked in the bottom 10% of European keepers for both goal kicks and crosses claimed via FBref, fails to help United in possession.

Ten Hag's style, which saw Andre Onana play the ball out from the back at Ajax, may require a more modern keeper than De Gea, and given that the former Spain international could depart for free and make space on United's wage bill, now seems to be the ideal time to move on and find a replacement.

Rangers’ "Physical" £5k-p/w Target Set To Fly In For Medical

Glasgow Rangers target Jose Cifuentes is set to fly in to complete a medical ahead of a move to the Scottish Premiership, according to reports.

Who is LAFC's Jose Cifuentes?

The Los Angeles FC midfielder first arrived in the Major League Soccer back in 2020 and has since gone on to make a total of 113 appearances for Steve Cherundolo’s side, but with his contract set to expire at the end of the year, he’s likely to be available for a cut-price fee this summer.

Speaking to GiveMeSport, Fabrizio Romano credited the Light Blues with a strong interest in the 24-year-old and claimed that initial conversations are “going well” after Michael Beale and Co offered him an “interesting project”.

The Ecuador international also recently sparked excitement among supporters after he was spotted liking social media comments from fans welcoming him to the club despite a deal having not yet even been completed, though it sounds as if a move is pretty imminent.

Are Rangers signing Cifuentes?

According to The Herald, Cifuentes is “poised to quit” Los Angeles FC in the MLS and is “expected to jet in for a medical sooner rather than later” to finalise his switch to Rangers. Beale now “closes in” on securing his next new signing and one that will add “further strength” to the centre of the park, with all of the fresh faces set to join up with the rest of the squad in next month’s pre-season training camp over in Germany.

Ecuador midfielder Jose Cifuentes.

Could Cifuentes be a strong addition for Beale?

Rangers recently confirmed the signing of Crystal Palace goalkeeper Jack Butland so Beale will now be focusing on what other targets he can bring in next, and having been described as a “physical” central midfielder by Ecuador specialist Benedikt Duda, Cifuentes would be a fantastic addition at Ibrox.

The World Cup participant, who pockets £5k-per-week, is naturally stronger in the attacking aspect of his game, ranking in the 98th percentile for successful take-ons and turning his dribbling skills into results having posted five goal contributions (four assists and one goal) in 18 appearances across all competitions this season.

Cifuentes, however, is also good at getting stuck in defensively having won 15 of his 19 tackles made since the start of the term so loves to dispossess the opposition and win the ball back for his side. For someone who has a positive impact at both ends of the pitch, this seems like a no-brainer of a deal to complete.

Man Utd Could Find George Best 2.0 In £100m "Monster"

With focus now beginning to turn toward the summer transfer window for those at Manchester United, a sense of uncertainty remains at the club amid the ongoing takeover talks, with it yet to be decided just who will replace the current owners, the Glazers.

At present, it would appear that it is a straight fight between INEOS' Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Qatari investor, Sheikh Jassim, albeit with a decision still needing to be made after numerous rounds of bidding from both parties.

In the case of Jassim, reports in Spain have suggested that the interested bidder has already put together a ten-man transfer wishlist should he edge out Ratcliffe and become United's new owner, with it seemingly apparent that the Qatari banker is ready to splash the cash this summer.

Among that reported list of targets is Napoli sensation, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, with the Georgian wizard having dazzled during his first season in Italian football, helping Luciano Spalletti's side to Scudetto glory after bagging 12 goals and 13 assists in 33 Serie A games.

Recognised by his club as arguably the "best player in world football" – as per CBS reporter, Ben Jacobs – the 22-year-old is unlikely to come cheap if he is to make the move to Old Trafford, with journalist Ryan Taylor previously suggesting that it could take around £100m to pull off a deal.

While that fee may appear rather sizeable, the signing of the fleet-footed "monster" – as described by talent scout Jacek Kulig – could well prove worth it for Erik ten Hag's side…

How good is Khvicha Kvaratskhelia?

The talent of the former Dinamo Batumi ace can seemingly be best illustrated by his apparent likeness to an iconic figure of Red Devils history, with former Italy international, Christian Vieri having stated that the "days of George Best will return" if Kvaratskhelia is to sign for the club, as the Tbilisi native is the "same" as the late, great Northern Irishman.

Any comparison to Best is likely to catch the eye of United supporters, with the European Cup-winning sensation having arguably been "the greatest talent our football ever produced", according to Sir Alex Ferguson.

George Best

Having arrived in Manchester as a teenager from his native Belfast, the legendary wide man would go on to score 179 goals in 470 appearances over the decade or so, establishing himself as a true cult hero due to his instinctive and dynamic brilliance on the pitch, as well as his lavish lifestyle off it.

A true wizard with the ball at his feet, the enigmatic ace had the ability to run rings around opponents with apparent ease, with former teammate Bobby Charlton having stated previously:

"At the time when [Best] first got in the team, no one had seen his like before: someone who was so small and tough, who would go into tackles, but also had the ability to turn people inside out and beat anyone he liked. George was as good as anyone you will see; he used to embarrass players time and time again."

It would appear that Kvaratskhelia also possesses that "untamed" quality – as hailed by journalist Rory Smith – as he notably ranks in the top 6% among his European peers for progressive carries and in the top 3% for successful take-ons, as a marker of his dribbling prowess.

Hailed for his "incredible dribbling ease" by ex-Napoli talisman, Marek Hamsik, the 20-cap menace undoubtedly possesses a likeness to that of Best, with the hope being that is not too long before the emerging superstar is snapped up by the United hierarchy.
