The PCB has dismissed speculation that the proposed venues for the Champions Trophy won’t be ready for the tournament. The venues – Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, Karachi’s National Stadium and the Rawalpindi Stadium – are undergoing a facelift but delay in construction work has raised doubts over the readiness of Lahore and Rawalpindi.Shafqat Naghmi, the PCB’s chief operating officer, said the work would be completed by August 20, well in time for the tournament, which starts on September 11. “When we had given the contracts for the two stadiums in Lahore and Rawalpindi, the project was divided into two phases,” he told the . “The initial phase was aimed at having the grounds ready for Champions Trophy matches, while the second phase was mostly for additional work that could be completed after the tournament.”The first phase is almost complete while the next will be carried out before we host India for a full series,” he said. India are scheduled to tour Pakistan for three Tests and five ODIs early next year.The Rawalpindi Stadium, Naghmi said, was almost ready, with two floors built to house spectator enclosures, players’ dressing rooms, media rooms and commentary boxes. “Some air-conditioning units will be fixed in the second phase at the stadium,” he said. Naghmi also dismissed the impression that the media box at the Gaddafi Stadium was being shifted to the main pavilion, opposite from its current location. “We are not shifting the media box anywhere. It will stay where it and has been refurbished.”The PCB is spending Rs 500 million (approximately US$6,915,000) on the development of the three venues.

شبكة “إي إس بي إن” العالمية، ذكرت الأسبوع الماضي، أن الاتحاد الإنجليزي قدم طلبًا رسميًا لرابطة الدوري الإنجليزي الممتاز، بعدم تحديد مباريات بين الستة الكبار (BIG SEX)، قبل مونديال قطر 2022، دون توضيح سبب الطلب.

الاتحاد لا يريد إقامة مباريات بين ليفربول ومانشستر سيتي وتشيلسي ومانشستر يونايتد وآرسنال وتوتنهام في عطلة نهاية الأسبوع قبل انطلاق منافسات مونديال قطر، أو مباريات ديربي، مثل ديربي لندن وديربي ميرسيسايد. 

ساوثجيت تحدث عن الأمر في تصريحات مع صحيفة “ستاندرد إيفينينج” البريطانية: “لقد طلبنا من الدوري الإنجليزي الممتاز التفكير في الأمور”.

واستدرك : “لكننا نتفهم أيضًا أن برنامج المباريات مُعقد للغاية، لا يمكنك الحصول على مانشستر سيتي في نفس عطلة نهاية الأسبوع مثل مانشستر يونايتد على أرضه، ولذا هناك كل تلك الاختلافات التي ندرك أنها صعبة”.

وأضاف: “نحن لن نفضل أيًا من تلك المباريات الكبيرة، ولكن بصراحة، فإن الفارق الذي ستحدثه هامشي إلى حد ما”.

وواصل: “يُمكن أن يساعدنا الأمر بالحصول على تقرير طبي إذا لعب الفريق يوم السبت، فسوف يمنحنا يومًا إضافيًا للتقييم، لأننا سنلتقي يوم الاثنين ونطير يوم الثلاثاء إلى قطر وسيتعين علينا اتخاذ قرارات سريعة حقًا بشأن المواقف الطبية على وجه الخصوص”.

وأتم تصريحاته قائلًا: “لذلك هذا هو الشيء الوحيد الذي ننظر إليه، قد يساعدنا، سنكون أغبياء ألا نسأل السؤال إذا كان يمكن أن يحدث فرقا”.

Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir played India into a position ofdomination but, after a rain break that accounted for the middle session and75 minutes, Sri Lanka struck gold, taking four wickets for 11, bringing thememories of the collapses in the first Test back to roost.Like the pitch at the Galle International Stadium, which comprised two polarhalves -­ one cracked and unreliable, the other flat and damp -­ the firstday’s play featured startling contrasts. In the first half of the day Sehwagand Gambhir put behind them not only the debacle at the SSC but alsothoughts of how, early in the piece here, they played and missed, and howthe ball misbehaved when it hit the cracks. They got India off to a flier;Sehwag fell just short ­- for the second time in his career -­­ of a hundredin the first session of a Test, a session in which India scored 151 runs,registering the second biggest opening stand in Galle.What made Sehwag and Gambhir’s partnership – which came at more than five an over­- remarkable was that both batsmen were troubled amply by the bowling. The firstball he faced after the break, he edged Vaas to gully, who collected it first bounce. The second ball, he moved his front leg out of the way andalmost hit it into the Galle Fort. Two balls later he bludgeoned a straightboundary to get to his 15th century.Smart statsVirender Sehwag’s 15th Test century was his first against Sri Lanka. Fourteen of the 15 have come in India’s first innings in a Test.Sehwag’s 128 came off 122 deliveries. He scored 91 off 108 balls that pitched on a good length and nine off six pitched short. He was lethal on anything too full: nine deliveries bringing 28 runs.The 167-run stand between Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir is the second-best for the opening wicket in Galle.In 22 innings that they have opened the innings together, Sehwag and Gambhir have scored 1230 runs, at an average of 58.37 – the best for Indian opening pairs with over 1000 runs.Rahul Dravid has faced 32 balls from Ajantha Mendis in the series, scoring just eight and getting out thrice.The 21st over best illustrated Sehwag’s approach. Mendis started by beatingSehwag with a carrom ball, which he didn’t read. Then a straight one thatbeat him again. And he was almost caught and bowled off the fourth ball. Only three Tests ago, in Providence, Antigua, on a pitch thatresembled Sri Lankan wickets, Vaas had taken eight wickets. Here in Galle,he proved once again his utility to the side with two wickets in one over,which helped turn 167 for 0 into 178 for 4.Sachin Tendulkar played outside the line to one that straightened up enoughto be hitting off stump. Sourav Ganguly was done in by the reverse-swing,the ball moving away with the shiny side; with a spectacular diving catch ­in front of Kumar Sangakkara at slip, Prasanna Jayawardene made amends fora slip he had made in similar circumstances earlier in the innings, causingGambhir to be dropped on 13.Sehwag has previously seen fiery starts given by him go to waste -­ inMelbourne in 2003-04, and in Mohali and Bangalore against Pakistan in 2004-05, to name a few. A similar story seemed to be panning out here, but ­thank goodness for small mercies -­ he was still unbeaten when bad lightfinally stopped play.

An update has emerged on outstanding Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard, regarding a potential transfer to the Premier League.

According to The Sun’s Alan Nixon, Premier League clubs are dropping out of the race for Odsonne Edouard due to the Celtic attacker’s wage demands.

The report claims that both Southampton and Brighton have opted against a deal for the ex-PSG man because he is demanding £85k-per-week, with the Hoops wanting a £15m fee for his services.

Fans will be buzzing

Celtic fans will be delighted with this update from Nixon as it appears to increase the chances of Edouard remaining in Scotland beyond the end of the transfer window. His options are diminishing with clubs refusing to meet his extortionate, by their estimations, wage demands and that could leave him with nowhere to go between now and September 1st.

The Frenchman is seemingly pricing himself out of a move and that could come as a massive boost to Ange Postecoglou’s squad, as he is a quality player in the Scottish Premiership. He is a proven goalscorer and the Australian coach could need his ability to put the ball in the back of the net to stand a chance of reclaiming the title from their arch-rivals Rangers this season.

Former Hoops forward Frank McGarvey commented on speculation over the Frenchman in 2020 and hailed him as an outstanding footballer. He said:

“I just love watching Edouard. He has that bit of magic in his feet, and he reminds me of Charlie Nicholas.

“You just know if he gets the ball just outside of the box the other team are in trouble. Edouard has that ability to produce something out of nothing because he has such quick feet.

“I think someone will come in this summer and put £20million on the table for him. You can’t blame Celtic for taking it, especially in the current climate.

“I’ll be sorry to see him go because he is an outstanding footballer. His temperament and his ability are genuinely top class.”

His statistics for Celtic back up these claims. Last season, the forward scored 18 goals in 26 starts across the Scottish Premiership and Europa League and has one goal and one assist in one league start this term. This is why fans will be buzzing that he could now be set to stay at Celtic Park as they will continue to watch him – hopefully – score goals and win games for the club.

The window closing with him still at Celtic could also allow him to fully focus on his football without the distraction of a potential move away. Therefore, fans could enjoy seeing a motivated Edouard showcase what he can do throughout the 2021/22 campaign.

Jannik Vestergaard would have suited Wolves, claims Express & Star journalist Luke Hatfield.

Vestergaard recently completed a £15m move from Southampton to Leicester City; however, Wolves were also said to be interested in the central defender before his transfer to the King Power.

According to The Athletic, Wolves and a host of other Premier League clubs were all keen on signing Vestergaard as he ran down his Southampton contract.

It was not to be for the Midlands outfit, though, which Hatfield believes is a shame, suggesting that the 29-year-old would have been ideal. He told TT:

“I think he would have suited Wolves. Vestergaard would have been a really, really good signing for Wolves.

“He would have suited them well. He would have suited the wingers well, too. With someone like [Adama] Traore delivering balls into the box, Vestergaard’s height obviously makes him a real threat, not just defensively but also going forward.”

Clearly, at 6 ft 6, Vestergaard would have brought a real presence to this Wolves side.

As per WhoScored, last season, the Denmark international won more aerial duels (3.3) on average than any Wolves player. Willy Boly came the closest with an average of 2.7 per Premier League game, which is still quite respectable.

However, the Ivorian is more renowned for his pace, so that really could have been a nicely balanced partnership if Wolves had managed to sign Vestergaard and Bruno Lage opted for a back four.

The only one of Kevin Pietersen’s plans that hadn’t quite come off, at least until Sunday at Lord’s, was Owais Shah’s promotion to No.3

The various pieces of England’s one-day jigsaw have slotted into place seamlessly over the last couple of weeks against South Africa. Kevin Pietersen’s desire to have Steve Harmison back in the attack, Andrew Flintoff at No. 5 and Samit Patel as the spin-bowling allrounder has worked like a dream. The only plan that hadn’t quite come off, at least until Sunday at Lord’s, was Owais Shah’s promotion to No.3.He made 12 in the opening match at Headingley and 23 at The Oval but on his home ground Shah guided England’s run chase of 137 off 20 overs with 44 off 40 balls as they took a 4-0 lead in the series. He didn’t panic after a slow start and soon unleashed an array of shots against the struggling South Africa bowlers. It was getting increasingly dark, but Shah didn’t have any problems picking up the ball, swinging one six over the Tavern boundary.Pietersen has had the utmost faith in his players so far and had no doubts that Shah would show his true value higher up the order after an extended run at No. 6. “He got a top edge at Headingley and a good ball from [Jacques] Kallis at The Oval,” said Pietersen. “I had no doubt he would come off. He knew I had the confidence in him, and so did the players and his county stats prove he’s a great player in first-class cricket.”He deserved a go at three. He’s played some fantastic shots, and the way he was talking when I was batting with him was a really good sign of things to come.”Shah’s stand of 74 with Pietersen broke the back of South Africa’s defence after England had struggled to find the boundary during the Powerplays. Andrew Flintoff came in and finished the match in a blaze of boundaries, but was quick to give credit to the hard work of his team-mate. “I came in and did what I did and probably took the glory – but the work had been done beforehand,” he said.Flintoff added that Shah had the talent to make the most of his promotion to No. 3. The pair played together in age-group cricket for England and, at 29, it was now time for Shah to push for a lengthy international career.”I’ve played a lot of cricket with Owais since he was about 14,” said Flintoff. “He’s always been a special player – I think there’s a hell of a lot more to come from him.”Unlike Flintoff and Pietersen, Shah will be back on county duty after the final ODI against South Africa, at Cardiff, on Wednesday after being one of the players released for the remainder of the season. It will be a chance for Shah to end the season in good form before looking ahead to the Stanford Super Series and a tour of India.

أصدر نادي آرسنال الإنجليزي، بيانًا رسميًا، أعلن من خلاله التعاقد مع الدولي البرتغالي فابيو فييرا، لاعب وسط فريق بورتو، ليكون ثالث صفقات الجانرز في صيف عام 2022.

آرسنال في نافذة الانتقالات الصيفية، نجح في إبرام صفقتين، حيث تعاقد مع البرازيلي ماركينيوس من ساو باولو، كما نجح في ضم حارس المرمى الأمريكي، مات تيرنر من فريق نيو إنجلاند.

وقال آرسنال في بيانه: “نُعلن انضمام فابيو فييرا إلى نادينا من نادي بورتو بعقد طويل الأمد”.

فابيو فييرا مع بورتو بالموسم الماضي، شارك في 39 مباراة بمُختلف المسابقات، وصاحب الـ22 عامًا، سجل سبعة أهداف وقدم 16 تمريرة حاسمة.
