Fulham have been dealt a blow in their bid to bring Ike Ugbo to Craven Cottage this summer.

What’s the talk?

That’s according to a claim made by Fabrizio Romano, who revealed in a post on Twitter that the centre-forward is set to leave Chelsea this summer, with Belgian side Genk appearing confident of completing a deal for the 22-year-old.

Romano goes on to state that Besiktas, Feyenoord and PSV Eindhoven are also interested in a deal for the centre-forward in the summer transfer window, while earlier reports have also claimed Fulham are keen on the former England U20 international.

Silva surely gutted

Considering just how much potential Ugbo appears to possess, the fact that Fulham look set to miss out on the signing of the striker this summer is sure to have left Marco Silva feeling gutted.

Indeed, over his 32 Jupiler Pro League appearances while on loan at Cercle Brugge last season, the £4.05m-rated man bagged a whopping 16 goals, as well as taking an average of 1.8 shots and making 0.5 key passes per game.

These metrics saw the £38k-per-week forward earn a highly impressive average SofaScore match rating of 6.79, ranking him as the club’s eighth-best performer in the top tier of Belgian football.

As such, the addition of the man the Belgian media dubbed a “decisive” player to Silva’s attacking arsenal at Craven Cottage this summer would have certainly provided the club with a boost to their chances of securing an immediate return to the Premier League next season.

However, with it now appearing as if Genk will be the centre-forward’s next destination, the Portuguese Fulham boss will likely have to turn his focus in the transfer market elsewhere, something that will undoubtedly frustrate the 44-year-old.

He saved Simon Jones the much hyped Welshman as England’s answer to Shoaib Akhtar and Brett Lee as Sachin came out to bat. Jones is quick but he represents raw pace and hasn’t got his compass fine-tuned. But he seemed to unsettle Tendulkar who took a knock on his elbow.The Indian innings was never allowed to get started on the morning of the third day. Hussain got his bowler to go ground the wicket and to aim for the rib-cage. It was good, aggressive captaincy. Even though the track was flat and described as “a belter,” the Indians chose not to counter-attack. Only Rahul Dravid and Vangipurappu Laxman seemed equal to the task and Dravid was out to a ball that jumped at him and Laxman ran out of partners.India had started badly when it chose to leave out Harbhajan Singh, going by the conventional wisdom that in England, one should play three seamers. With the exception of Zaheer Khan, the other two seamers neither had the pace nor were they able to move the ball, in the air or off the seam and England was able to amass 487 without too much sweat.Virender Sehwag, opening the innings for India played a breezy innings and a most attractive one but India needed serious runs and this meant Tendulkar coming off. Muttiah Muralitharan who has recovered from a shoulder injury showed that he was match-fit when he destroyed Bangladesh in the first match. He should have played in the second Test and is clearly unhappy that he did not. So too is the captain, Sanath Jayasuriya.Sri Lanka will need to get its act together for the triangular in Tangiers for it will be pitted against Pakistan and South Africa. At present, it gives the impression of a house divided against itself. And if I was a Sri Lankan sports official, I would see to it that Muralitharan is kept happy. He is half the team and without him, the bowling is less than mediocre.Pakistan will not have Shoaib Akhtar for Tangiers. He has chosen to ‘rest’ in England. I have no quarrel with that. But we were getting confused signals, as if to suggest, that he had just trotted off without permission. That is not, of course, the case. But Shoaib has got the reputation of being a loose cannon, somewhat. But I don’t think he would let Pakistan down when the team needs him.Pakistan has developed into a fine, fighting unit. Ange Postecoglou wants Ryan Christie’s Celtic contract to be extended, according to journalist Ekrem Konur.

The Lowdown: Christie’s situation

It emerged back in April that Christie has less time on his Hoops contract than many thought. The 26-year-old penned a Parkhead extension back in 2018, however, that deal expires in January, not next summer.

That means that the attacking midfielder can now talk to clubs outside of Scotland ahead of a potential pre-contract agreement.

As we know, that is yet to materialise and Christie’s situation remains the same, but it seems as if Postecoglou wants to tie the Scot down to a new Celtic Park contract.

According to Konur, who was the first to share Celtic’s interest in Aurelio Buta last week, ‘Postecoglou wants Christie’s contract extended’.

Konur adds that talks have been held with Christie’s representatives. The midfielder’s current deal is worth £12,000-a-week.

The Verdict: All down to Christie…

Christie appears to be a man in demand this summer, and ultimately, he’ll decide what he wants to do with his contract running down.

Reports earlier this month suggested that Al-Hilal were poised to offer the midfielder a life-changing deal, whereas rumours before then claimed Sampdoria were keen on his services.

Celtic could do with knowing Christie’s stance on his future as soon as possible, as the Hoops could then look at selling this summer instead of losing him on a free in January.
