قام نادي بلاكبيرن روفرز، الذي يُنافس في دوري الدرجة الأولى الإنجليزي “تشامبيونشيب”، بدعوة المصلين المسلمين لأداء صلاة عيد الفطر اليوم الاثنين، 2 مايو 2022، على أرض ملعبه، وذلك في أول بادرة من نوعها لنادٍ إنجليزي.

وشارك المئات من النساء والرجال في أداء الصلاة داخل ملعب “إيوود بارك”، حاملين سجادات الصلاة للاحتفال بالعيد.

وأعلن بلاكبيرن إقامة صلاة العيد على أرضية ملعبه، وتخصيص العشب للمصلين الرجال والنساء، كما صدح أذان العيد في “إيوود بارك”.

ونشر بلاكبيرن روفرز مقطع فيديو لمشهد اصطفاف المصلين في الملعب، وكتب من خلال حسابه الرسمي بموقع التواصل الاجتماعي “تويتر”: “عيد مبارك من الجميع في بلاكبيرن”.

وأضاف: “أصبح الروفرز هذا الصباح أول نادٍ لكرة القدم في البلاد يقيم صلاة العيد على أرض الملعب”.

They have won all but one of the 11 Tests they have played since, and in so doing beaten India (2-1), Bangladesh (1-0), West Indies (3-0) and Zimbabwe (3-0), all at home, and for good measure defeated Pakistan at Lahore in the final of the Asian Test Championship. By contrast England have not won a rubber in the same period, drawing 1-1 with Pakistan, losing 4-1 to Australia and 1-0 to India, and then squaring their most recent series in New Zealand at a game apiece. Why, then, are England evens favourites to win the three-match series that starts at Lord’s on May 16th, with Sri Lanka at 5/2?Granted, Muttiah Muralitharan has been ruled out of the Lord’s Test with the shoulder injury he sustained in on his 30th birthday in the Sharjah Cup final. Conceivably he may miss the entire series, which would undoubtedly upset the formbook given his influence when Sri Lanka won the one-off Test at The Oval on their last visit in 1998. Purely on averages, the top England batting is not as impressive. Graham Thorpe is the only man averaging over 40; Marcus Trescothick (37) and Nasser Hussain (36) come next. Of the other contracted batsmen, Mark Butcher and Michael Vaughan will be keen to finish the season in the higher rather than the lower 30s.It is in the bowling department that England should have the edge, particularly in the early part of the summer when conditions are most likely to suit Messrs. Caddick and Hoggard. Their averages are strikingly similar, at around 28. But there’s another man on 28 – Chaminda Vaas – who must surely relish the opportunity to play his first Test series in England in such conditions. Vaas took more wickets (16) in last year’s home series against England than Muralitharan himself. Backed up by Nuwan Zoysa and the recovered Dilhara Fernando, he will surely be a key figure in the next couple of months.Despite England’s comparative lack of success over the past year, don’t forget that the series win in Sri Lanka was their fourth in a row. Last summer’s Ashes defeat apart, they’ve proved doughty opponents in every series they’ve played in over the past two years, and Murali or no Murali, don’t expect this one to be any different.

Sunderland are set for an interesting few weeks, with just over a month until the new League One season gets underway.

The Black Cats have been somewhat of a ‘sleeping giant’ in the third tier of English football for far too long now, and the Stadium of Light faithful will be eager to see their side make a timely return to the Championship under the management of Lee Johnson.

They narrowly missed out on promotion into the second tier last season, after being beaten by Lincoln City in their play-off semi-final, which condemned them to yet another season in League One, much to the frustration of the club’s supporters.

Not only does it condemn them to another year in the third tier, but more alarmingly, the club face a nervous wait to see whether key players will remain at the Stadium of Light moving forwards.

One player that looks as though he’s set for the exit door is Charlie Wyke, with the 28-year-old’s contract with the club expiring in June.

Wyke caught the eye with a number of strong performances in front of goal, with the former Bradford City forward scoring 30 goals in 53 appearances for Sunderland, as he spearheaded their push for promotion into the Championship, although his best efforts weren’t quite enough.

Not short of offers

Wyke has been attracting interest from Scottish giants Celtic in recent months, whilst Nottingham Forest, Cardiff City, Middlesbrough and Millwall have also been credited with interest in landing his signature this summer.

Therefore, the 28-year-old has a tough decision on his future to make, and he’ll be hoping that he can build on a hugely impressive league campaign from the 2020/21 season.

Johnson makes Wyke admission

Speaking in a recent interview (quotes sourced from the Northern Echo), Sunderland boss Johnson has recently revealed that he doesn’t expect Wyke to return to the club ahead of the 2021/22 season.

“Charlie, I would say the door is ajar, but we’re certainly not expecting him to come back.

“I’d say that it would be him coming back to us and saying he wants to talk again, effectively. My gut says that he will move on, I’d say 95% that he’ll move on.

“But we would leave the door ajar because, at the moment, you never know.”

Potentially season-defining month ahead

Sunderland’s supporters have had every right to feel frustrated for their team’s slip-ups in recent seasons, and for the club to progress, they simply have to win promotion back into the Championship this coming campaign.

If they don’t achieve that, then even more key players will be linked with departures from the club, which could see them struggling for any sort of momentum moving forwards.

With Wyke’s future looking as though it’s elsewhere, which is a massive blow to them given how he was the team’s main source of goals, it’s vital that Sunderland find a good-enough alternative to replace the forward, who is certain to leave a sizeable void in their team.

As it stands, the club are heading into a season without a forward who they know can score goals, which is hugely frustrating for the fans. This simply must be addressed.

With Wolves still requiring some extra firepower in the final third, Lage could finally replace Jota by signing Arnaut Danjuma.

Football League World reported a few months ago that they were just one of a couple of Premier League sides vying for his signature.

Danjuma was mesmeric in the Championship last term, finding the back of the net on 17 occasions and also laying on eight assists for his teammates.

Speaking about his form, ex-Bournemouth boss Jonathan Woodgate said: “I know last season that he didn’t really get a run in the Premier League and he maybe found it a bit difficult to get game time, but this season he’s been outstanding.â€

Woodgate added: “I can only talk of what he’s done under my reign, but at the minute, he’s playing some exceptional football, and what else he is doing is working for the team.â€

The winger was a crafty trickster last season, beating players for fun and scoring some simply outrageous strikes.

Like Jota, he is capable of finding the net on a regular basis and cut his cloth in the Championship first, just as the Portuguese star did.

In the second-tier, Danjuma completed 1.8 dribbles per game. Coincidentally, that replicates the number the former Wolves man recorded in his final campaign at Molineux.

The Bournemouth star’s 2.1 shots per game in 2020/21 is also just 0.1 more than Jota managed in his final year with Wolves.

Capable of playing on either flank and through the middle, Danjuma would be the perfect replacement this summer.
