McSkimming rips through Canterbury to set up victory charge

David Norris drools over Leeds summer target Rodrigo De Paul

Former Leeds United star David Norris believes that striking a deal to sign Rodrigo De Paul this summer would be a huge statement from the club.

The Udinese playmaker has been heavily linked with a potential move to Elland Road, since last summer.

Leeds are said to have made a bid last year, only to see it rejected by the Serie A club.

Reports suggest the Italian side are demanding £40m to allow him to leave after a season in which he scored nine league goals.

Leeds enjoyed a fabulous season under Marcelo Bielsa this term, ultimately finishing in the top-half of the Premier League table.

And Norris thinks that signing the 27-year-old would send a real message of intent to the rest of the top-flight this summer, as he believes De Paul is a “serious player”.

Speaking exclusively to Football FanCast, Norris said: “I think so. I think that could be the one signing where people do that, because he is a serious player, he’s got great ability and he could make them a better team.

“Because of the reputation he’s got now, and the stature he’ll come with, it’ll make people think ‘Leeds are going to have a go again’.

“Especially after that first season, where they’ve survived really well, competed really well, it’s going to be a little bit harder for them now. Teams will know a little bit about them, found out their style of play, how to stop them a bit more. It’s not just that they’re going to hope to hang on and repeat it.

“That would be a statement to go, no, we’re ready to go again, we want to gatecrash those European spots.”

Per FBref, De Paul ranks in the top 1% of attacking midfielders in Europe for his assists, as well as his dribbles completed, and in the top 2% for progressive carries and expected assists (xA). The second most comparable player to him, per the website, is Manchester City superstar Kevin De Bruyne.

– O Malcom só me falou coisas boas do Corinthians.

Crystal Palace linked with Marc Guehi

Crystal Palace are reportedly interested in signing Chelsea defender Marc Guehi ahead of the upcoming transfer window.

What’s the story?

The 20-year-old enjoyed an impressive loan spell at Swansea City last season, attracting the attention of several sides, including Palace.

That’s according to The Athletic, who claim the Eagles are targeting Guehi as they plan an overhaul of the centre-back positions over the coming months.

Parish masterstroke

It’s not stated whether Palace are hoping to secure the youngster’s services on a temporary or permanent basis, but either way, he would be a brilliant option for the south London outfit.

With the likes of Mamadou Sakho, Gary Cahill and Scott Dann approaching the end of their current contracts with the capital club, chairman Steve Parish is going to have to bring in multiple replacements and securing Guehi would be a masterstroke.

The England Under-21 international made 45 appearances for the Swans in all competitions last season as Steve Cooper’s men reached the play-off final, recording a highly respectable WhoScored rating of 6.90 in the process.

His 1.6 tackles and 1.6 interceptions per league game saw Guehi form a pivotal part of the Welsh outfit’s defence and showcased his potential to play at a higher level in 2021/22.

After Roy Hodgson’s departure from Palace, the Selhurst Park side are embarking on a new chapter where trimming the average age of their squad is set to form a key part of their plans.

Bringing in the £9million-rated Chelsea starlet, therefore, would solve several issues at once.

Despite his tender years, Parish should have no qualms about bringing Guehi in to play in the Premier League on a regular basis as his natural physique lends itself to the physical demands of the English top-flight.

“Easy, Marc Guehi. He’s an absolute tank,” Stoke City goalkeeper Josef Bursik said when asked to pick the strongest player in the England U21 squad.

“It’s like having a brick wall in front of you, he’s massive.”

Hodgson’s successor is yet to be named and is likely to want to have their say on Palace’s transfer dealing this summer, but it’s hard to imagine anyone turning down the opportunity to sign Guehi, and his arrival could mark the beginning of a new era in south London.

And, in other news…Get it done: Parish must sanction Palace swoop for “outstanding” £14.4m-rated prodigy

Bundela's 144 helps MP to post imposing total

Devendra Bundela’s 144 was the mainstay of the Madhya Pradesh innings on the second day of their Ranji Trophy pre quarterfinal against Hyderabad at the Daly college ground in Indore on Sunday

Staff Reporter11-Mar-2001Devendra Bundela’s 144 was the mainstay of the Madhya Pradesh innings on the second day of their Ranji Trophy pre quarterfinal against Hyderabad at the Daly college ground in Indore on Sunday. Thanks chiefly to his 280-ball innings, MP were able to post an imposing total of 490 in their first innings. At stumps Hyderabad were 34 for no loss.MP, who batted patiently to score 216 for two off 90 overs on Saturday were a bit more enterprising on the second day, taking 78.3 overs to make 274 runs. Opening batsman HS Sodhi was a bit unlucky to miss his century. He was run out for 89 after a 474-minute vigil at the crease. He faced 320 balls and hit ninefours. He and Bundela added 175 runs for the third wicket off 70.5 overs.Bundela and Abbas Ali (57) then carried on the good work by adding 95 runs for the fourth wicket off 21.3 overs. At this stage, Bundela was out after having batted 384 minutes. The 23-year-old right hander faced 280 balls and hit 19 fours and a six.Jai P Yadav then hit up a bright 44 off 54 balls with six hits to the ropes. The tail too chipped in and MP almost topped the 500 run mark. The bowling honours were shared by off spinners, young NS Yadav (4 for 114) and veteran Kanwaljit Singh (4 for 95).Hyderabad openers Daniel Manohar (18) and M Srinivas (13) batted confidently for the nine overs till close of play. But Hyderabad still have a lot of work ahead of them.

Patson Daka snubs West Ham

RB Salzburg striker Patson Daka has turned down the advances of West Ham United, according to Football Insider.

The lowdown

Daka was prolific for the Austrian champions last season, scoring 27 goals in 28 league appearances. On average, he netted every 72 minutes.

The Zambian international is valued at £19.8million by Transfermarkt and has three years remaining on his contract.

The report states that West Ham are among the clubs to have registered their interest in signing the 22-year-old.

The latest

Daka’s camp has communicated the player’s intention to move to a higher-level club.

As well as West Ham, who have qualified for next season’s Europa League, he has rejected Ligue 1 outfit Monaco.

The Irons are in the market for a striker who can offer ‘cover and competition’ for Michail Antonio.

‘Many other’ Premier League teams are hopeful of landing Daka, with a recruitment source revealing the Hammers’ failed interest.

The verdict

This is a blow for West Ham, who would have hoped that European qualification would have boosted their pulling power.

However, Daka may not quite as good as his league record suggests. He failed to score in the Champions League group stages or the Europa League Round of 32 this season, for instance, so perhaps is benefitting from player in a much inferior domestic league.

While suitors will be hoping that he can emulate Erling Haaland in thriving after leaving Austria, he could just as easily struggle like former team-mates Takumi Minamino and Hee-chan Hwang, who failed to score a league goal for RB Leipzig in 2020/21.

In other news, West Ham fans reacted to this development in their pursuit of a centre-back.
