According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, Tottenham Hotspur have been scouting RB Leipzig midfielder Marcel Sabitzer…

What’s the word?

Speaking on a ‘transfer special’ with popular Spurs Youtuber Chris Cowlin, Romano said:

“Sabitzer is a player Tottenham are pursuing, they are scouting him [and have done] for two years. They like the player.

“It’s not easy to negotiate with Leipzig because they know that they are going to sell Upamecano next summer, so they will make money with Upamecano and [it] won’t be so easy to sign, also in the same summer, Sabitzer.

“A lot of clubs are interested. Jose likes this kind of player – he has quality, he’s also a fighter, running. He’s not just a quality player, he’s really ready for Premier League football.”

Forget Eriksen

Spurs have just been dealt a blow in their chances to bring Christian Eriksen to the club, according to Romano there is “no chance” the Dane returns before tonight’s deadline.

This has a knock-on effect as it means Dele Alli will be unlikely to seal a move to Mauricio Pochettino’s Paris Saint-Germain but perhaps Sabitzer provides a solution that suits all parties.

As Romano claims, it will be difficult to get him in the future given the situation at Leipzig, so they should swoop now – and he’d be a better option than Eriksen anyway.

Since the start of the 2019/20 campaign, Sabizter has delivered 19 goals and 15 assists across all competitions compared to Eriksen’s struggled in Inter, where he has only managed five goals and two assists.

It’s no wonder that the Leipzig talisman was dubbed a “goal threat” by his boss, Julian Nagelsmann.

It is also thought that Mourinho wants a box-to-box midfielder rather than an out-and-out no.10, as per The Times’ Duncan Castles, which is again why Sabitzer is a better fit than Eriksen right now.

Not only has the Austrian beast provided creativity, but he too attempts 2.8 tackles per 90 at a success rate of 57%, and has averaged 1.7 interceptions per 90, via WhoScored.

That shows his impressive work-rate, one that isn’t matched by the former Spurs star as during his time in north London, he never managed more than 1.6 tackles or 1.1 interceptions per 90, also via WhoScored.

Indeed, Sabitzer also fits the profile as Romano has said before – he’d be “perfect for Jose Mourinho” and similarly, former Leipzig coach Ralf Rangnick lauded his development as a “leader” as “remarkable.”

Alli, who has played only 472 minutes in all competitions, is clearly not going to break into Mourinho’s plans anytime soon, so a move to PSG would suit him and with the blow over Eriksen, Spurs really could do with someone like Sabitzer before tonight’s deadline.

The Athletic believe he could be available for £30m or under given his contractual situation.

Daniel Levy must look to sanction this sooner, rather than later.

Reaching a mutual agreement now like Edu has already done with the likes of Sokratis and Ozil would see Arsenal take another giant step to completing a much-needed clear-out of their high-earners who don’t figure in Arteta’s plans.

Some Manchester City fans were left slamming the display of Joao Cancelo despite their 3-1 away win at Everton in the Premier League on Wednesday night.

Pep Guardiola’s men continued their hot streak at Goodison Park thanks to goals from Phil Foden, Riyad Mahrez and Bernardo Silva, although Richarlison did manage to grab one goal for the hosts to make the score 1-1 at half-time.

Some members of the Etihad Stadium faithful thought that Cancelo was at fault for the goal conceded, as the former Juventus ace did not enjoy the best of games by his usual high standards.

He lost no fewer than 11 of his duels in the game, the most out of any of his teammates to have set foot on the pitch, and failed to make a single clearance or accurate cross (Sofascore).

The Portugal international also lost possession of the ball 17 times, the most out of all of the outfield players, earning him a quite measly 6.6 overall rating on Sofascore.

These MCFC supporters slammed his performance on Twitter, with some claiming that the 26-year-old was ‘poor’:

أكدت صحيفة “ميرور” الإنجليزية أن النجم المصري محمد صلاح سيكون متواجدًا في مباراة ليفربول وتشيلسي، المرتقبة الأسبوع المقبل.

ومن المقرر أن يلتقي الفريقان في إطار منافسات الجولة الحادية والعشرين من الدوري الإنجليزي الممتاز على ملعب ستامفورد بريدج، يوم الأحد 2 يناير.

وتخوف ليفربول من إمكانية فقدان خدمات الثلاثي محمد صلاح، ساديو ماني ونابي كيتا في تلك المباراة حيث سيتعين عليهم التوجه إلى معسكرات منتخباتهم للمشاركة في كأس أمم إفريقيا.

وستنطلق البطولة الإفريقية في الكاميرون في الفترة بين 9 يناير وحتى 6 فبراير.

وأوضحت أن ليفربول حصل على موافقة الاتحاد المصري بمشاركة محمد صلاح أمام كتيبة توماس توخيل، وبعد ذلك سيتجه إلى معسكر المنتخب الوطني.

وأفادت أن ذلك الأمر يعني إنه حتى إذا تأهل منتخب مصر إلى نهائي كأس أمم إفريقيا، فإن ليفربول لن يفتقد خدمات محمد صلاح إلا في مباراتين فقط في الدوري الإنجليزي وذلك أمام برينتفورد وكريستال بالاس.

ولكن محمد صلاح سيغيب عن مباريات أخرى لـ ليفربول في بطولات مختلفة، بعيدًا عن الدوري الإنجليزي، حيث لن يشارك أمام آرسنال في مباراتي نصف نهائي كأس رابطة الأندية الإنجليزية، وأمام شروزري في كأس الاتحاد الإنجليزي.

وأشارت إلى إنه يتبقى في الوقت الحالي معرفة ما إذا كان ذلك الأمر ينطبق كذلك على ماني وكيتا، بعد التوصل مع الاتحاد السنغالي والغيني لكرة القدم للحصول على موافقتهما بمشاركة الثنائي ضد البلوز.

Liverpool are continuing to be linked with a move for Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Florian Neuhaus, and he could be the man to help unleash Thiago in the Reds midfield if he were to join.

According to Sport BILD journalist Christian Falk (via Express), the 23-year-old is willing to join the Reds in the summer, and they are now the number one contenders to sign the German, due to Dortmund-bound manager Marco Rose not wanting to sign any of his current players from Monchengladbach when he makes the switch, whilst Bayern Munich are low on funds after their signing of Dayot Upamecano.

Neuhaus has established himself as a top prospect in Europe with his performances in recent seasons, contributing four goals and two assists in 30 Bundesliga appearances last season, resulting in an excellent 6.96 average rating.

The midfielder looks well on track to surpass these statistics this season, having already managed four goals and four assists in 22 appearances in the German top-flight.

Neuhaus would likely arrive as a replacement for Georginio Wijnaldum, who looks set to depart Anfield in the summer when his contract expires, and he arguably could be better-suited to this Liverpool midfield than the Dutch international, as his style of play would suit Thiago.

The German is taller than Wijnaldum and would provide more of a physical presence in midfield, which may take some of the pressure off Thiago to defend and try and win the ball back, which doesn’t really suit his skill set.

The Reds need an all-round midfielder with an excellent work rate such as Neuhaus, who averages 13.44 pressures per 90 minutes, as this would allow Thiago to conserve his energy and make himself available for when Liverpool win the ball back with their press, rather than doing all of the chasing himself.

Neuhaus has earned a lot of plaudits with his performances for Monchengladbach, with teammate Marcus Thuram labelling him an “outstanding” player last year, and with Die Fohlen languishing in mid-table in the Bundesliga, he deserves a move to a side that can challenge for trophies next season.

Certainly, his all-round style of play in midfield would definitely compliment Thiago and allow him to get back to his best, as so far, he has failed to reproduce the level of performances he showed in his time with Bayern Munich.

Michael Edwards will be aware of Neuhaus’ quality and availability, sanctioning a move for the Monchengladbach ace could prove to be a masterstroke.
