It is still unknown as to who will be in the Newcastle hot seat for next season, but the Toon chiefs will surely be working behind the scenes as they look to bring in the right man. Today’s Newcastle transfer roundup includes Premier League interest in a 21-year-old midfielder, an approach made in regards to the manager’s job and an update in the pursuit of another boss.

Longstaff on United radar

According to The Metro, Manchester United are willing to match Newcastle’s £30m valuation of Sean Longstaff. United think he is worth £25m but are happy to meet the North East club’s asking price and are confident of signing the Englishman after Rafa Benitez’s exit from St. James Park.

Conceicao approach

The Daily Mail is reporting that Porto boss Sergio Conceicao has been approached by Newcastle in regards to becoming their new manager. Sky Sports has already reported that Conceicao would be open to a switch to the Premier League club, and now Newcastle have made their move.

Newcastle confident they can get Gerrard

Newcastle are confident that they can persuade Steven Gerrard to leave Rangers and become their new manager according to The Northern Echo. The 39-year-old only joined Rangers last season, taking the Glasgow-based side to second in the SPFL.

Wolves are lining up Danish winger Robert Skov this summer according to Eldesmarque.

The Spanish publication claim that Celta Vigo have emerged as one of his possible destinations but both Wolves and Tottenham have contacted his club FC Copenhagen over a possible transfer.

Skov has quickly become one of the most impressive young wingers in Europe and found himself involved in a massive 42 goals across all competitions in 2018/19.

He was in mesmeric form, scoring 24 times in the league as he helped his side to a Danish Superleague title, finishing 11 points ahead of their nearest competitors.

However, he could now be on the move as Wolves look to gear up for an assault on the Europa League next term.

Adding depth to a team that only used 21 players in the Premier League last season will be vitally important, especially as the Midlands outfit could be staring at an extra 20 games if they make it all the way to the final in Europe.

There is, of course, a whole year to go before that may become a reality but there is certainly reason to suggest Skov could help their cause.

“Skov would be an outstanding signing for Wolves, and exactly the type of player they should be targeting this summer. Jorge Mendes may have proved in the past that he can help bring individuals like Ruben Neves and Rui Patricio to Molineux, but the sensible and shrewd tactic of looking for some of the best young players from smaller leagues in Europe should also be a path the west Midlands outfit look to follow.

“The 23-year-old certainly fits under that category seeing as he scored 32 goals in 48 appearances for FC Copenhagen last season, and he would arrive with the added bonus of having experienced Europa League football with the Danish giants. Taking all of that into account, he would be Wolves’ standout signing of the summer.”

Harry Sherlock

“Skov would be a gamble, but sometimes gambles pay off. He’s just 23 and has some remarkably impressive numbers behind him. He scored 32 goals in 48 games for FC Copenhagen but, really, what does that mean? He’s not been playing in anything approaching a top league across the last season but if the price is right, he’d be worth a punt.

“Very few wingers across Europe have such an impressive goal tally and he could well slot right in at Molineux. But, really, nobody has a clue. He’s an unproven quantity at the highest level and while he could be a star, he could also be a remarkable flop.”

“Wolves certainly need a forward this summer as their depth up top doesn’t really stretch beyond Raul Jimenez and  Jota. Skov would be a bit of a risky signing though. The Danish Superliga isn’t exactly a great standard. Just this season we have seen former Hull City flop Dame N’Doye score 15 goals at the age of 34, despite the fact he only hit five goals during his time in England.

“Of course, it can also go the other way. Teemu Pukki was one of the signings of the season as he won the Golden Boot in the Championship after joining Norwich from Brondby, but the Premier League is a different animal. It’s hard to say whether or not Skov would be a good signing, but if Wolves really want to have a go at breaking into the top six they should be looking at a much safer option.”

أكد أنطونيو كونتي مدرب إنتر ميلان، أنه لا يواجه مشكلة بشأن غياب اللاعب روميلو لوكاكو عن مواجهة يوفنتوس، مساء الغد في بطولة كأس إيطاليا.

ويلتقي الفريقان مساء الغد في ذهاب نصف نهائي البطولة.

ولن يشارك لوكاكو في تلك المباراة بعد دخوله في مشاجرة عنيفة مع نجم ميلان زلاتان إبراهيموفيتش في الدور الماضي.

وقال كونتي في تصريحات نشرتها شبكة “فوتبول إيطاليا” مساء اليوم: “يجب أن يكون هناك احترام كبير لفريق قوي للغاية، سنحتاج إلى تقديم مباراة رائعة”.

وواصل: “غياب لوكاكو؟ هذه ليست المرة الأولى التي يغيب فيها روميلو عنا، سيكون هناك سانشيز ولاوتارو مارتينيز”.

وأردف: “لوكاكو على ما يرام، لقد استجاب بشكل جيد لما حدث وسجل هدفين أمام بينيفنتو في الدوري، الآن سيكون قادرًا على الراحة والاستعداد لمباراتنا القادمة”.

According to The Guardian, Everton are weighing up a move for Manchester City midfielder Fabian Delph, with Marco Silva potentially needing to add depth in midfield despite the arrival of Andre Gomes from Barcelona.

The England international has seen competition for game time increase significantly this summer, after the Premier League champions recruited Rodri in a club-record deal from Atletico Madrid, whilst they also signed left-back Angelino from PSV – both players play in positions that Delph can occupy.

There is no indication as to how much the former Leeds man would cost, but he is rated at £13.5m on Transfermarkt.

Meanwhile, Paris Saint-Germain have reignited their interest in Idrissa Gueye. The French champions wanted the Senegal ace back in January, and their pursuit led to the 29-year-old handing in a transfer request – the Parisians have offered €30m this time around.

With all this transfer speculation going on, one thing is for certain – Everton cannot view Delph as a replacement for Gueye. Not by any means.

As you can see from the graphic above, Delph is a significantly less effective player from a defensive point of view.

Gueye makes more than double the amount of tackles per game than the City man completes, whilst he also records one more interception per game than the Citizens’ No.18.

Marco Silva prefers to play with a two-man midfield, where Gueye tends to do the dirty work whilst Andre Gomes keeps things ticking over nicely – you can tell that the two aren’t on the same level defensively by Gomes’ average of 1.4 tackles per game.

As a result of that, if the Toffees allowed Gueye to leave and introduced Delph as Gomes’ new midfield partner, Everton would find themselves in danger of becoming too soft centred in the middle of the pitch.

You could argue that Gueye’s contributions allow Gomes to focus on his side of the game too – if Delph arrived and neither he or Gomes could be the defensive shield that the Senegal international was, then the entire Everton machine could falter without their key cog.

Delph isn’t anything like the African, and if the Merseysiders cash in on the 5 foot 9 midfielder they must sign a competent replacement – someone who isn’t the Man City man.

وتحدث رونالدو عن فينيسيوس في مؤتمر صحفي قبل نهائي بطولة كوبا ليبرتادورس بين بالميراس وسانتوس، وقال بتصريحات نقلتها صحيفة “آس” الإسبانية: “إنه يسير على الطريق الصحيح، لا اعتقد أنه ينقصه أي شيء للنجاح مع ريال مدريد”.

وأضاف: “فينيسيوس يمتلك من الإمكانيات الفنية اللازمة لمساعدته في التألق مع النادي لكن المنافسة بين اللاعبين قوية للغاية في ريال مدريد كما يعرف الجميع”.

وتابع: “لاعب رائع ولديه مستقبل جيد مع ريال مدريد وقد انتقل في سن صغير للغاية من البرازيل، وحاولت ضمه على سبيل الإعارة مرتين إلى بلد الوليد (مالكه) لكن ناديه رفض وفضل الاحتفاظ به”.

وشارك فينيسيوس في الموسم الحالي مع ريال مدريد في 16 مباراة في جميع البطولات وسجل هدفين حتى الآن.

Lots of Sunderland fans have been giving their verdict on some comments from Jack Ross, who wants the club to focus on using their youth talent rather than always looking for new signings.

What a weekend for the Black Cats. The club announced the signing of former Coventry City defender Jordan Willis, much to the delight of fans.

That wasn’t even their most important signing of the weekend though, as Aiden McGeady committed his future to the club, signing a new deal that will keep him on Wearside until the summer of 2021.

And now, Ross has encouraged the young talent at the club to force their way into his plans during pre-season.

“I’ve been pleased with them and there were a number of the younger players playing on Thursday,” he said.

“It’s good for them to be a part of it and I think we saw last season if you take Josh (Maja) and Denver (Hume) as an example of it that there’s an opportunity to force your way into the reckoning.

“Like Ethan (Robson) and Elliot (Embleton), they are players we have produced ourselves and we should embrace that rather than being obsessed by recruiting from elsewhere.

“They need that opportunity which hopefully I will be able to give them, but they also need to prove they are capable of taking it and then producing time after time which comes with the demands of playing for this club.”

Plenty of the Black Cats faithful have been delivering their verdict on the gaffer’s philosophy of pushing through young talent, and most of them are delighted to hear the club’s prospects will be given a fair chance.

However, others are wondering if the club is simply too “skint” to make any major signings, while one doesn’t believe the boss after his failure to use youth last season.

Leigh Griffiths made his competitive return for Celtic against FK Sarajevo and the fans are absolutely delighted.

Griffiths came on as a late substitute for Odsonne Edouard in his side’s 2-1 victory over the Bosnian champions.

Goals from Ryan Christie and Callum McGregor ensured it was a comfortable night for Neil Lennon’s men, after their dominant showing in the away leg last week.

The 5-2 aggregate win means that Lennon’s side will face Nomme Kalju in the second round of the Champions League qualifiers. The Estonian side will travel to Celtic Park next week in the first leg.

Griffiths is a real fan favourite at Celtic Park and the affection the fans have for him was clear to see against Sarajevo. Perhaps the loudest cheer of the night was reserved for his entrance onto the pitch in the 80th minute.

The 28 year-old has returned having taken time away from football to focus on his mental health.
