James Milner has contributed seven goals and seven assists in 44 appearances for Liverpool during the 2018-19 campaign.

His numbers are excellent for a central midfielder.

But Milner has brought so, so much more to a Liverpool team who just fell short in the Premier League but are in yet another Champions League final.

As it stands, Milner will be leaving Anfield on a free transfer this summer.

However, the Liverpool fans have taken to social media to call for the 5 ft 9 ace to pen an extension at Anfield.

The versatile midfielder is already 33, and will turn 34 in the middle of next season.

The former England international is still incredibly fit, though, and will certainly feel that he has another two years or so left at the top level.

The Liverpool fans, however, have made their feelings pretty clear, with an overwhelming majority hoping he will remain on Merseyside.

Having seen their club’s fortunes completely transformed by the arrival of Daniel Stendel, the Oakwell faithful will be excited to see just how well their club can do in the Championship next season following their promotion from the third tier last month.

Although the German already has a fantastic squad of players at his disposal, it will not be at all surprising if he decides to bring in a number of additions this summer to help boost his options.

With the right-back position being hotly contested by Jordan Williams and Dimitri Cavare throughout the 2018/19 campaign, the Tykes may benefit from bringing in a player who could take their defence to new heights next year.

According to Football Insider, Barnsley are one of a number of clubs who are keeping tabs on Sunderland defender Adam Matthews whose current deal at the Stadium of Light runs out next month.

An exciting player, the £1.35m-rated ace (via Transfermarkt) has impressed this season for the Black Cats when given the opportunity to express himself by Jack Ross and carries a clear threat going forward having provided five assists for his team-mates in League One.

Yet despite delivering a number of promising performances for Sunderland in recent months, the emergence of Luke O’Nien as Sunderland’s number-one choice at full-back could mean that Matthews may have to move on for the sake of his career.

Considering that the former Celtic player will cost the Tykes nothing in terms of a transfer fee, it could turn out to be quite a coup if they can convince him to make switch to Oakwell.

Having previously played in the Championship for the likes of Cardiff City, Sunderland and Bristol City, Matthews knows exactly what it takes to thrive at this particular level and therefore could turn out to be the perfect signing for a Barnsley side looking to prolong their stay in the second tier.

However, if Stendel is considering a move for defender, he must act fast to beat the likes of Sheffield Wednesday and Queens Park Rangers to his signature.

تشيلسي نجح في الفوز خارج قواعده على نيوكاسل بهدفين نظيفين، في المباراة التي جمعت بين الفريقين، على ملعب “سانت جيمس بارك”، ضمن لقاءات الجولة التاسعة، ليتصدر النادي اللندني ترتيب البريميرليج.

وقال لامبارد في المؤتمر الصحفي عقب نهاية المباراة: “لقد حققنا فوزًا جيدًا، المُباريات التي تكون بعد فترات التوقف الدولية تمثل تحديثًا، كنا في حالة جيدة من قبل ولكن من المهم إعادة اللاعبين معًا وجعلهم يركزون، لقد أظهرنا ذلك من خلال تحضيرنا وأدائنا”.

وأضاف: “إنها مباراة صعبة على الورق أنّ تأتي إلى هنا وتلعب ضد فريق خسرنا أمامه العام الماضي، لقد سيطرنا، وسجّلنا هدفين، رغم أنه كان بإمكاننا تسجيل المزيد لكننا حافظنا على شباكنا نظيفة، لذلك يمكنني أنّ أكون سعيدًا جدًا بذلك”.

وواصل: “كان يُمكن أنّ نكون أكثر قوة، لقد صنعنا بعض الفرص الرائعة ضد فريق نيوكاسل الذي لا يمنحك فرصًا كبيرة لأنهم يدافعون بقوة، كان بإمكاننا أنّ نسجل ربما هدفين أو ثلاثة أهداف في الشوط الأول”.

وتابع: “كنت أعلم أنهم لا زالوا في المباراة خلال الشوط الثاني، وكانوا أكثر إيجابية في الـ45 دقيقة الثانية”.

وعن الوصول للفوز الخامس تواليًا وتصدر البريميرليج: “هذا هو ما نحتاجه، اللاعبون يعملون بجد، من الجيد أنّ نكون في المركز الذي نحن فيه، لكننا لن نظل في صدارة الدوري لفترة طويلة”.

وأتم تصريحاته قائلًا: “نحن بحاجة إلى مواصلة العمل من أجل الاستمرار، التناسق هو ما نسعى إليه خلال تلك الفترة التي سنلعب بها العديد من المباريات”.

West Ham have enjoyed a strong end to what has been a respectable transitional season under Manuel Pellegrini. 

The Chilean arrived last summer and was immediately given a £100 million pound war-chest to use to his heart’s content.

Pellegrini uncovered some true gems with that budget and with the right backing again this summer, he could give West Ham fans a season to remember.

Fans are more than happy with having a serial winner in charge of their beloved club; he now just needs a better cohort of players to make the real magic happen.

Though sometimes things never change. Despite laying down a huge budget for him last year, whenever the West Ham owners can, they try and save money, which is testament to why they’re successful businessmen.

In a football setting, it is sometimes hard to get yourself a bargain but the owners could help prove that isn’t always the case this summer by landing soon-to-be out of contract Hector Herrera.

Herrera (who is valued at £19.8 million on Transfermarkt) is free to leave Porto this summer after six years with the Portuguese giants. Indeed, Ex-WHU Employee claimed on Twitter at the start of the month that there would be interest in the player from the Stratford giants, after all.

The 29-year-old will already have plenty of interest in him and although West Ham won’t be the biggest club on that list, they could cause a seismic shock by luring him to the London Stadium.

His age may be a put-off for some but for West Ham, they must realise that with a 29-year-old, comes plenty of experience and know-how of the game.

Herrera is Porto’s captain and he played his part in 51 appearances this season, where he went on to score eight times and produce two assists.

With an engine as efficient as someone much younger, Herrera is exactly the box-to-box midfielder Manuel Pellegrini is looking for, so they should do whatever it takes to lure him to England.

Celtic manager Neil Lennon won’t have much time to assess his first-team squad before the thick and fast action starts again for the Hoops this summer.

Lennon’s side are currently due to play their first UEFA Champions League qualifier on July 9 or 10, and after a short break the Celtic Park boss will be busy back at work preparing the team for that initial challenge.

One of the players he’ll have to make a decision on quickly is winger Lewis Morgan, who just completed an incredibly long season with Sunderland, just missing out on promotion to the English Championship after Sunday’s play-off final.

He’ll be returning from loan to compete for a left wing spot, but does he have what it takes to make it at Celtic Park?

On the chalkboard

There’s already a fair bit of competition for the position at Celtic Park although it arguably does need strengthened if the Hoops have ambitions of making an impact in Europe.

Scott Sinclair has been first pick for most of the last 12 months, making 55 appearances in 2019/20, scoring 17 goals. Despite that decent tally, question marks have been raised about his ability to impress consistently, definitely opening the door for a new left winger to make the position his own.

Morgan though looks to be the least compelling option of the players immediately available to Lennon with both Mikey Johnston and Daniel Arzani probably ahead of him right now in the queue.

Sunderland impact

The 22-year-old didn’t have a completely ineffective spell at Sunderland after joining in the January transfer window, making 22 appearances in all competitions.

With just two goals and four assists though, he didn’t stand out too much either and given he was playing at English League One level, it doesn’t bode well when considering the kind of attacking output Celtic will be looking for in Europe and big domestic matches.

Right now, the step up between St Mirren and Celtic looks to have been too great of a divide for the young winger. He excelled at Scottish Championship level for the Buddies, but he’s done nothing since the move to suggest he can be a regular for the Hoops.

Can he surprise everyone and force his way into Lennon’s plans this summer? The jury is very much out.

وجاءت خسارة الريدز بعد أيام من فوزهم على ليستر بثلاثة أهداف بلا مقابل، في الجولة التاسعة من الدوري الإنجليزي.

واختتم: “ليفربول البطل، لقد كانوا بطل أوروبا، ولديهم مدرب وفريق رائع، احترامي لهم كبير، كلما واجهتهم، فأنت تعلم أنك ستخوض اختبارًا هائلًا”.

West Ham United look set to benefit from saying goodbye to one of their players this summer.

According to a report by The Sun, Edimilson Fernandes is set to end his nightmare time at the London Stadium and join FC Mainz for a fee thought to be around £8million. That is great news!

The Switzerland international failed to really establish himself in the side during Slaven Bilic’s tenure and was subsequently used as a bit-part player.

Last season may have seen him put in some impressive performances for Fiorentina whilst out on loan with the Serie A outfit, however, it would have been difficult to see him make an impression in the first-team this time around – although a case could be made for him with their concerns at right-back because of the versatility the midfielder offers.

Hence, as we mentioned, receiving a transfer fee of around £8m for the 23-year-old is a great piece of business and should provide some much-needed cash for Manuel Pellegrini to spend on new additions – provided that money is made available for that reason.

It is thought the Chilean will only have around £30m (per Football.London) to spend on new signings this summer (a far cry from the £100m or so they spent this time last year), although player sales are said to go towards increasing that budget.

As The Sun continued their report, the Hammers are very keen on bringing Barcelona’s Andre Gomes to the London Stadium this summer following an exceptional spell with Everton.

The Portugal international is a player that would have to be regarded as a must-have in east London and one man that could help take them to the next step of their ambitious plans.

Sky Sports recently claimed that the La Liga giants turned down an offer of around £18m for Gomes (that was never going to be enough, was it?), however, with the alleged imminent departure of Fernandes, they could finally be in a position to give Barcelona what they want.

It must be said, the midfielder is not the only player sale that the Irons can do with and a number of others are going to have to be shifted this summer if they are able to address every concern Pellegrini has in his squad.

According to Express & Star, West Brom are keen to speak to Charlton boss Lee Bowyer as they again step up their approach for a new manager.

What’s the word?

It’s now been almost three months since the Baggies sacked Darren Moore from his managerial role with the club and they’re still yet to find a replacement.

Jimmy Shan did a solid job but Albion missed out on promotion and were left to potentially rue the mistake of not finding a permanent successor.

This week West Brom have held talks with Slaven Bilic per Express & Star, but the same publication now claim that they’re keen to speak to Bowyer.

The Charlton boss worked wonders with the Addicks in 2018/19, leading them to a League One play-off final victory over Sunderland.

One major problem

The fact Albion supporters are still waiting for a manager to be confirmed is incredibly baffling. The likes of Chris Hughton, Bruno Labbadia and Chris Wilder have all been touted as candidates but Technical Director Luke Dowling appears to be stalling on a decision.

Moving for Bowyer shows that the Baggies are potentially looking at something different and if so much wasn’t on the line it would be a refreshing choice.

However, with a significant rebuild on the cards you feel as though West Brom will need someone with far greater experience.

The 42-year-old only has one full season of managerial work under his belt and although it was an impressive term, making the step up to the higher echelons of the Championship will be a task.

At the Hawthorns there would be far greater pressure to succeed, especially given one of the club’s main targets will surely be to achieve promotion.

West Brom’s last two appointments have seen them opt for inexperience, something that simply didn’t work.

Moore oversaw their relegation in 2017/18, despite some brilliant performances, and wasn’t particularly convincing last season despite guiding the team to fourth. Meanwhile giving Shan the reins until the end of the campaign didn’t pay off either.

Bowyer’s appointment would be of a similar ilk – it’s time for West Brom to get someone in with proven know-how at the top end of the second tier.
