Liverpool fans slam Naby Keita’s performance against West Ham

Liverpool took another step towards claiming their first ever Premier League title on Monday night as they recorded a 3-2 win over West Ham United.

The Reds are now 22 points clear of second-placed Manchester City having incredibly won 26 of their 27 Premier League matches during the 2019/20 campaign.

Jurgen Klopp’s side needed to come from behind to beat the Hammers, though, and it would be fair to say that not too many of the club’s fans loved Naby Keita’s display.

Call yourself a Liverpool expert? How much did each of these big-money January signings cost?

Indeed, a number took to social media to criticise the midfielder, who came into the side as a replacement for the injured captain Jordan Henderson.

Meanwhile, others have gone a step further and claimed that Keita should be sold in the upcoming transfer window.

The 25-year-old only arrived at Anfield from RB Leipzig in the summer of 2018 but has largely found it difficult to make his mark, contributing just six goals and two assists in 51 appearances for the Merseyside club in all competitions.

Meanwhile, a number of Liverpool fans were not happy with this particular player for his performance against the Hammers on Monday night.

Aston Villa fans discuss Louie Barry

Aston Villa now find themselves right in the middle of a relegation fight, as wins for West Ham United and Watford put them 19th with a game in hand.

They are desperate to get out of the bottom three before the end of the season, and Dean Smith will be racking his brains for a way to ensure that happens.

One fan account has suggested that Louie Barry should be the club’s second-choice striker ahead of Keinan Davis, which has left fans split.

One fan has suggested that people need to “give the kid time to develop”, while another said they may have considered using him sparingly if the team wasn’t in a relegation battle.

Did he really play for us?! No Villa fan has managed to name all of these obscure Villans….

There have also been comments which show specific concern for the lack of physicality he has at the moment, with one fan suggesting he “would get bullied left right and centre”.

One part of Davis’ game that can prove to be useful is his physical presence, as was best shown against AFC Bournemouth when he held off Simon Francis before getting a shot off that was deflected into Mbwana Samatta’s path for him to head home.

The 16-year-old has only played one U23s game this season, in which he scored, while he also bagged twice for the U18s in a game against Norwich City.

Davis is yet to score in the Premier League this season, having missed 16 league matches through injuries, implying that he may not be the most reliable option for Smith.

Therefore, even with Borja Baston at the club, some fans have suggested that Smith should give Barry a try.

Meanwhile, fans from other clubs have been making negative claims about Jack Grealish.

Sunderland fans want to see more of Kyle Lafferty

Sunderland’s winless run extended to three games on Saturday in the worst possible circumstances.

The Black Cats must have thought they had the game won as the game ticked past the 90-minute mark, but Gillingham had an ace up their sleeve as they netted a last-minute equaliser to break the home supporters’ hearts.

However, despite the devastating late strike, there was one huge positive to take away from Saturday’s 2-2 draw.

Kyle Lafferty started his first game for the Wearside outfit, and he made a brilliant impact, netting twice for his new club.

Phil Parkinson has been desperate for a goal scorer all season, with Charlie Wyke and Will Grigg netting just six goals between them, and it seems as though the manager’s prayers have been answered in the shape of Lafferty.

It may have only been one performance, but many supporters are already convinced that he’s better than Wyke.

Others reacted very brashly, stating that he has to be a starter from now until the end of the season.

Whether or not the striker becomes Parkinson’s first-choice remains to be seen, but one would think that he’s at least his secured his spot in next week’s team.

In other news, Sunderland’s contract priority has become clear.

Arsenal must avoid swoop for inconsistent Diogo Jota

Arsenal may not be able to play any football for the next few weeks, but that doesn’t mean all operations at the club have ground to a halt.

Indeed, the Gunners are seemingly still conducting their transfer operations as a story broke on Friday morning stating that they’re looking at a new attacker.

What’s the story then?

The north London club apparently have their eyes on Wolves’ Diogo Jota.

The Daily Mail report that the winger is a prominent name on Mikel Arteta’s summer wish-list, and after his recent performances, you can understand why they’re taking a shine to the Portugal international.

The Wolves star has netted six goals in his past five games, and that sort of form is enough to catch the eye of any team.

However, the Gunners should be careful of pursuing him.

More of the same

Jota is undoubtedly a talented player, he’s scored 15 goals this season in all competitions, and he’s been a vital component in Wolves’ push for European football.

However, he’s far too inconsistent for Arsenal to be considering him.

Yes, he’s scored 15 goals, but he’s far too much of a form player.

Indeed, he went through a run of scoring just once in 17 games at one point this term, and he again went eight games without a goal after netting five in two.

If you catch Jota on a good day he is unplayable, but those days are few and far between, and Arsenal are one club who can’t afford to gamble on a player like that.

The Gunners have enough forwards who blow hot and cold, just look at Alexandre Lacazette for example. The Frenchman is capable of great things when he hits form, scoring five in six at one point last season, but he’s far too ineffective for long spells. A cold streak this year saw him go on a run of eight games without a goal in the top-flight before finding the net in his last two.

Arteta’s side need more players who can produce week in week out, and Jota simply isn’t that man.

In other news, Arsenal fans have highlighted two players they’d like to sign.

Bilic’s Fenerbahce links show the calibre of manager he is

West Brom have had an excellent season, and that’s at least partially down to their excellent manager.

Slaven Bilic has worked wonders with the Baggies this year, losing just five league games all season thus far and taking the Midlands club to the verge of a Premier League return.

Everything seems to be pretty good with the Croatian at the Hawthorns, but one club has recently tried to upset the apple cart by making a move for the manager.

What’s the story then?

Fotospor in Turkey are reporting that Fenerbahce have been looking at Bilic as a potential new boss.

Fortunately, the Albion boss turned down a return to Turkey, with the report stating that he’s happy with life at his current club.

Not only is keeping Bilic a huge boost for the Baggies after the work he has done this season – imagine going into the Premier League without the man who took them there – but Fener’s interest is a true sign of the calibre of manager they have.

Top-class

The fact that Bilic was considered by Fenerbahce, a side that have won the Turkish League 19 times and have regularly qualified for European football, shows just how big of a step up Albion made when appointing him.

Look at their previous manager – Darren Moore had to settle for a job at Doncaster Rovers after he was dumped by West Brom, and with all due respect to the Yorkshire outfit, Fenerbahce are a much bigger team.

The fact that Bilic is wanted by such a huge team highlights the quality of manager he is, and perhaps that’s a sign of why the Baggies have been so successful this season.

The Championship has proven time and again that having a top-class manager can be the difference. Just look at the top-two this season; Bilic once picked up 62 points in a Premier League season with West Ham while Marcelo Bielsa has previously been touted as the best coach in the world.

It’s not just this season either. Chris Wilder won LMA Manager of the Year when he took Sheffield United up, Neil Warnock took Cardiff from being a mid-table side to promotion and Nuno Espirito Santo has only gone from strength to strength at Wolves, as they’re now knocking on the door of the Champions League.

West Brom seem to have found the missing piece of their puzzle with Bilic, and this report should serve as a reminder to the calibre of boss they’ve got in charge.

In other news, West Brom should hand this man new and unique contract terms.

Rangers’ Steven Gerrard posts vital message on social media

Many people across the country have been practising self-isolation for the last week, and Rangers players and staff have been included in that.

Steven Gerrard showed fans his skills from his own home last week when he took part in the #toiletpaperchallenge, using a piece of toilet roll to do kick-ups with before nominating former teammate Jamie Carragher to do the same.

The Rangers boss has recently been active on social media once again, though on this occasion he took a more serious approach and displayed more leadership.

That is the responsible thing to do considering the position Gerrard is in, and the fact that Liverpool and Rangers fans look up to him means he may be able to make a difference in light of recent events.

Gerrard has an amazing reach, with more than £160,000 likes in response to his message, and therefore his advice could have a wide-ranging impact not just in the UK, but perhaps across the globe.

Others should follow his example and use the power of their following for good too, particularly as Gerrard has championed key workers in their time of need.

Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski also donated €1m to fight the pandemic, which shows the wider football community is trying to do their bit to help out.

Meanwhile, recent rumours have been discussing whether a loan player has a long-term future at Rangers, so our writers shared their view on whether or not the club should keep him…

Everton: Gary Lineker reveals Toffees were the best team he ever played for

Gary Lineker has had a truly wonderful career as a professional football player but he was also the kind of player who didn’t really stick to defending a single crest, instead opting to play for various different teams.

He spent time at Leicester City, Everton, Barcelona, Tottenham and also had a brief spell over in Japan before hanging up his boots and calling it a day.

And just recently, after watching the Everton, Howard’s way movie, which he seemed to love, he also revealed the Toffees of the 1985/86 season were the best team he’s ever played for in his career.

Of course, he only played there for a single season but that was seemingly enough to leave a lifetime mark on the now-retired forward who still cherishes those moments even after so many years.

The now 59-year-old English striker played a total of 35 games for the Toffees, banging in 30 goals and recording one assist under his belt in the process as well.

Everton fans, what do you think of Lineker’s season at your club? Did you expect such a statement from him? Let us know down in the comments below!Â

West Ham United: Porto winger Jesus Corona linked to the club

West Ham United have been linked to winger Jesus Corona, but face competition from a host of clubs, including fellow Premier League side Everton, as well as Inter Milan, Roma, Sevilla, Valencia and Schalke, according to A Bola.

The report goes on to claim that the FC Porto player has a £43.8 million buy out clause, and the club will accept no less for the player.

So far this season, the 27 year-old, per WhoScored backs this up as he is averaging 1.8 per game in his 24 league outings this season.

These are good statistics, but the current price tag is a big one, and it has also been rumoured that the Hammers will only have around £40 million to spend in the summer, via Sky Sports, according to journalist Kaveh Solhekol so it is hard to see them splashing that cash on one player.

It is probably a good move for the Hammers to not pursue this signing as they have academy prospect Grady Diangana, who plays in the same position as the Mexican, and he looks like he could have the potential to excel in England’s top flight.

It has been reported that David Moyes is looking to use him next term after his loan spell at Championship side West Bromwich Albion expires and his offensive statistics highlight why this would be a good idea.

Alongside his five goals and five assists in 21 games this season, including four substitute appearances, the Englishman has averaged 1.5 shots and 2.3 successful dribbles per game, via WhoScored, which is better than Corona, who has only managed 0.7 shots per game 2.2 successful dribbles per game.

The loaned out attacker is also six years younger than the transfer target so has years of growth ahead of him. The confidence he has to take players on and go for goal which are highlighted by his stats could provide West Ham with the spark they need in matches to score more goals, as they have only managed 35 this campaign, per SofaScore.

Therefore, they would be better off saving £40m+ by not buying Corona and instead giving Diangana the chance to shine.

Paul Robinson claims Bruce deserves to keep job

Former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson has claimed that Newcastle United should stick with current boss Steve Bruce, in an interview with Football Insider.

What did he say?

Bruce has done a solid job since taking over as Newcastle manager in the summer, with his side eight points clear of the relegation zone in 13th place.

However, with a Saudi-led consortium on the brink of a £300m takeover of the club, there has been speculation that the new owners could look to replace Bruce.

Robinson feels that Bruce deserves more time though, arguing he needs the chance to work with a “big budget behind him”.

“The owners will have a plan of who they want to bring in down the line but it is unfair to talk about a job that is currently occupied by a man that has done extremely well this season and exceeded expectations,” he told Football Insider.

“I would like to see him given an opportunity to prove his credentials with a big budget behind him.

“If they change it down the line there will be many suitors. Any manager that is promised a huge transfer kitty, no matter where the job is, it is a massively attractive one.

“At Newcastle, you are going to have an outstanding transfer budget with exceptional wages, a great stadium, a great fan base and an opportunity to make history by winning something – I do not care who you are, it is attractive.”

Quiz: How much did Mike Ashley pay for these Newcastle players?

World Class score: 95% | Expert score: 80% | Veteran score: 65% | Intermediate score: 45% | Amateur score: 30% | Try Again: 5%

Big decision

It appears that the new owners of Newcastle have plenty of ambition and whether to replace Bruce or not is the first of many big decisions they will have to make.

While Bruce has proven himself as a coach who can put together a well-drilled side, if the club want to be fighting towards the top of the table and winning trophies they may want to bring in a replacement who has experience in doing just that.

Everton: Fans react to latest Goodison Park development

Many Everton fans have reacted to an image of a newspaper segment showing a notice for the demolition of Goodison Park, which was shared via Twitter account @ToffeeTVEFC.

It has been common knowledge for sometime that officials at the Merseyside club have been keen to agree planning permission to improve and redevelop the site at Goodison Park.

The club are keen to move forward with the planned ‘Legacy Project’ for the area around the club’s stadium, which was officially submitted on 8th April.

Proposed plans could see the club’s current stadium demolished and made into community projects as the club look to move to a newly built and larger stadium, planned to be at the Bramley-Moore Dock area of Liverpool.

On the pitch, Everton fans can be a little excited with manager Carlo Ancelotti set to bring his own transfer targets into the club this coming transfer window.

The Italian coach replaced Marco Silva earlier this season and is yet to put his own stamp on the squad.

Reacting to the tweet, various Everton fans commented on the proposed plans and submission:
