Leeds fans loved Liam Cooper’s performance against Derby County

Leeds United maintained their place at the top of the Championship table with an utterly dominant 2-0 win over Frank Lampard’s Derby County at Elland Road on Friday night.

The Rams were outclassed from the first whistle to the last by the Whites who produced high levels of intensity and maintained a remarkably high and aggressive press through the match.

Going forward, the likes of Kemar Roofe, Jack Clarke, Mateusz Klich, Jack Harrison, Adam Forshaw and Ezgjan Alioski all shone. Marcelo Bielsa’s side were also solid at the back, largely due to the imperious centre-back pairing of Pontus Jansson and club captain Liam Cooper.

The 27-year-old skipper was making his first appearance since sustaining an injury against Sheffield United on December 1st. Despite this lengthy absence though, the 6’0” defender looked fully up to speed with the game and was unflustered throughout.

After the final whistle, plenty of Leeds fans took to Twitter to celebrate the former Scotland under-19s international’s triumphant return…

Newcastle’s offer for Miguel Almiron remains on the table as deadline day looms

[ad_pod ]

According to The Chronicle, Newcastle’s offer for Atlanta star Miguel Almiron remains on the table with just nine days left of the January transfer window – it remains to be seen whether or not the Major League Soccer side will accept or hold out for more money.

What’s the word, then?

The Chronicle report that the Magpies’ £16million offer for the Paraguay international has not been rejected, but nor has it been successful as the MLS champions hold out for £7m more.

However, the side from the United States are not in the best marketing position as things stand. Newcastle are the only Premier League club to have made a concrete move for the 24-year-old according to The Chronicle, which means that Atlanta may be stuck with the player if no other side gets involved in the bidding.

Pl>ymaker FC Exclusive: Jermaine Jenas reveals why Tyne-Wear is a more intense derby than anything London can offer – check out the video below….

You may think that being left with a player who scored 13 goals and grabbed eleven assists in the MLS last season (as per Whoscored) isn’t a bad thing, but having already signed a direct replacement in Gonzalo Martinez, it seems as if they’ll need to offload him before the deadline – Atlanta now have more ‘Designated Players’ – explained on the MLS official website – than they are allowed, which has left them in a sticky situation.

Will the deal happen?

It’s certainly still possible. Right now, it seems as if Atlanta are more than aware of the money available in the Premier League and have set their price accordingly.

What they haven’t accounted for, however, is the stinginess of Mike Ashley, with the Magpies owner yet to budge on £16m, which he may feel is enough to secure the player.

Perhaps he has every right to feel that way, as well. After all, there is hardly a long history of former MLS players excelling in Europe, and due to the aforementioned situation regarding designated players, Atlanta have backed themselves into a corner.

Newcastle fans react as club-record deal for Miguel Almiron nears completion

[ad_pod ]Newcastle fans have taken to Twitter excitedly after The Chronicle broke the news that Atlanta playmaker Miguel Almiron’s move to Tyneside is back on and looks close to completion, after talks stalled on a deal earlier in the month. The 24-year-old helped Atlanta become Major League Soccer champions last season, scoring 12 goals and recording 14 assists in 32 league startsÂ(via ESPN) as he truly put his name up in lights.Magpies boss Rafa Benitez has been crying out for Mike Ashley to put his hand in his pocket and sign some players, and have even plunged his future at St James’ Park into doubt if he does not get his wish, according to The Telegraph.Be sure to check out the incredible story of the man who rose from a Tanzanian refugee camp to become one of Australia’s biggest football stars in the video below…However, it now appears as if the former Liverpool and Chelsea manager has got his wish, with a reported club-record £20.5m deal close to being signed off as reported by The Guardian’s Ed Aarons on his official Twitter account.

Naturally, Magpies’ supporters are ecstatic after their transfer record looks to finally be broken after several years, if their reactions on Twitter are anything to go by…

For only £12m, Southampton simply must strike Deadline Day deal for target Che Adams

According to respected journalist Alan Nixon on Twitter, Southampton target Che Adams could be available for just £12 million as the January transfer window draws to a close. The 22-year-old currently plays his football at Championship side Birmingham City and has done so since leaving Sheffield United back in 2016, with his impressive efforts in front of goal for the Blues seemingly attracting the interest of new Saints boss Ralph Hasenhuttl.

And that’s because a report earlier this week from The Daily Mirror outlined the South Coast outfit’s interest in the striker, and as such the Premier League club may well be interested in what Nixon has had to say on Twitter, as he suggests that the Birmingham sensation might be available for just £12 million late on in the window.

And for just £12 million, for a player in form and with a bright future ahead of him, Southampton could seriously reap the rewards from sealing a Deadline Day deal for the 22-year-old.

The Breakdown

Ultimately, scoring goals has been something of a problem at St Mary’s in the last 18 months or so, what with the Saints only managing 37 goals in the Premier League last time round, and just 26 from their 24 league games this time round as well.

And other than Danny Ings, whose tally of eight goals in all competitions sees him comfortably head their goal-scoring charts, the other striking options simply haven’t been able to produce the goods – the likes of Shane Long, Charlie Austin, and Michael Obafemi have netted only five times between them.

And with Manolo Gabbiadini having left the club earlier this month, and the future of Austin far from certain (as per talkSPORT), another accomplished option in the final third appears necessary if Hasenhuttl is to indeed move Southampton forward in the second half of the season.

And Birmingham’s Adams certainly appears to be the man for the job given he has netted 15 times in just 29 Championship appearances for Garry Monk’s side this season, a tally which sees him sat fifth in the division’s goal-scoring charts this time round.

And with seven goals in his first season at St Andrew’s followed by nine last time round as the club staved off relegation to eventually finish 19th, it’s clear that the 22-year-old has been progressing nicely and thus getting better and better in front of goal – this season is a culmination of that improvement.

And arriving at St Mary’s full of confidence and match-ready would pale into stark contrast the arrival of Guido Carrillo 12 months ago, what with the Argentine moving to the South Coast having played and indeed scored very little for Monaco just before his move – it’s no surprise that he then struggled to make an impact at Southampton.

Yet Adams appears to be someone for not only the future but also the present, and for just £12 million for the 22-year-old sensation, it could prove to be an absolute bargain – as such, the Saints could well reap the rewards from luring the Englishman to St Mary’s before this evening’s 11pm deadline.

Matthias Ginter top of Tottenham priority list to maintain dominance over rivals Arsenal

It’s debatable whether Tottenham Hotspur have the funds available to them to conduct any business during the next transfer window, with the construction of their new stadium running well over deadline and, presumably, budget.

Similarly, bitter rivals Arsenal have also found themselves relatively inactive in the market, despite having no real excuse for their stinginess, with loan signing Denis Suarez their only bit of business this January gone.

According to Sky Sports, however, both teams have got their sights set on Borussia Monchengladbach’s centre-back Matthias Ginter.

Arsenal have certainly been suffering the most out of the two north London teams having already conceded 36 goals this season – the most out of any team in the top six. But, with Toby Alderweireld’s departure seemingly inevitable, it’s certainly in their interest to sign the German.

Indeed, should the Gunners manage to secure the missing key to their defence, in Ginter, there’s a very good chance they could dominate Tottenham for seasons to come.

The Spaniard has improved the offence massively, successfully developing a system whereby star strikers Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang can work together to create one of the most deadly Premier League partnerships on paper.

Their midfield shows sign of obvious promise, as well; it’s just the defensive unit who have seriously let the side down this season. For us, hurting any real chance of them securing top four.

Sokratis looks a decent enough player alongside Laurent Koscielny, but Mustafi has been very, very poor since his return from injury, and it’s fairly obvious that they need to enter the market for defensive support should they want to mount a legitimate push for silverware. Ginter is very capable of being that man.

Manchester United fans on Phil Jones’ performance against Fulham

[ad_pod ]

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer drafted centre-back Phil Jones into his Manchester United starting XI on Saturday. The Red Devils’ fine form continued on the day with a 3-0 win over strugglers Fulham at Craven Cottage.

A Paul Pogba brace and a fine strike from Anthony Martial was enough to earn all three points for the visitors, who remain unbeaten under Solskjaer. The Norwegian coach will also be pleased to have seen his side keep another clean sheet, which Jones played his part in preserving.

On top of that, the 26-year-old also registered an assist for Martial’s goal, and came close to scoring himself when his long-range effort provoked a smart stop from Sergio Rico.

The indoor football skills in the video below have to be seen to be believed…

The 27-cap England international recently signed a new long-term contract at Old Trafford. His performance against the Cottagers may have gone some way to convincing fans that offering him new terms was a smart move on United’s part.

After the game against Fulham, plenty of United fans took to Twitter to applaud Jones’ contribution…

Sunderland fans reject claim that Phil Parkinson can enact real change at the club

Phil Parkinson has come under heavy fire for his disastrous start to life as Sunderland boss, with some fans calling for Kevin Phillips to come in and replace the failing manager. However, they seem unlikely to get their wish given Stewart Donald’s backing of Parkinson, and with the transfer window looming it may not be a good idea to part company despite the negative results. That is one of the arguments made by Roker Report’s Damian Brown, who also argues that the Black Cats boss has the ability to change the club’s fortunes – a suggestion some fans simply can’t agree with.Watch Sunderland Videos With StreamFootball.tv Below

The idea that this may just be a sticky patch, or a steep early learning curve, has been suggested, but the early signs are not good with just two wins so far and looking at the other side of the coin, it would perhaps be an even bigger risk to trust Parkinson with new signings – a prospect that doesn’t fill some supporters with much hope.

While it may be unfair to judge his recruitment since he is yet to sign a player, there has been cause for pessimism under Parkinson.

He has continued Jack Ross’ uninspiring and insipid style of play but the Black Cats are now much easier to roll over and score goals against, demonstrated by the fact Sunderland have kept just two clean sheets in 13 games under Parkinson.

Calling all Premier League experts: Who do these unique statistics belong to? Find out below….

As a result, not many share Brown’s view that the Sunderland manager can bring about positive change, as so far he has only made things worse since his arrival.

With two games remaining until the transfer window the suspension of George Dobson has created a headache for Parkinson which could hinder Sunderland’s chances of returning to winning ways.

Celtic fans air their views on James Forrest following Aberdeen win

James Forrest played for 82 minutes on Saturday afternoon as Celtic recorded a 2-1 win over Aberdeen in the Scottish Premiership.

Odsonne Edouard scored the game’s vital goal in the second period – netting from a Ryan Christie assist to ensure that the Hoops would triumph.

Forrest was again deployed on the left for the champions with Olivier Ntcham in the number 10 spot and Ryan Christie down the right.

However, it would be fair to say that the club’s supporters were not overly pleased with Forrest’s spot in the team, with many insisting that he must be moved to the opposite side in order to show his best form.

However, some of the Celtic supporters do not wish to use Forrest’s position as an excuse, with some insisting that the attacker was simply not good enough on the day.

The 28-year-old’s numbers this season are fairly spectacular, scoring 13 times and contributing 16 assists in 33 appearances in all competitions.

That said, the 34-cap Scotland international is without a goal in his last five appearances in the Scottish Premiership.

Only real Celtic fans will get 100% on the Ultimate Hoops quiz. Test your knowledge below…

Next up for Celtic is a trip to St Mirren on Boxing Day before ending 2019 with a home game against Rangers on December 29.

Meanwhile, the Scottish champions might have to fight off Premier League interest for one of their key players during the January transfer window.

Tottenham Hotspur fans react to Dele Alli’s goal vs Arsenal from 2018

Tottenham Hotspur have had their fair share of memorable goals down the years and it would be rather difficult to try and rank them all.

But one that seems to stand out as one of the most beautiful they have scored in recent times is definitely Dele Alli’s sublime finish against Arsenal in December 2018.

Watch Tottenham Hotspur Videos With StreamFootball.tv Below

Of course, everything about that goal, not just the finish, was superb and once they got another look at it on social media after it was posted on Twitter by the club’s official account, many Spurs fans were left drooling over it once again.

You can see some of their first reactions down below:

Of course, while one fan even claimed this was the goal of the century, many others were actually impressed by the whole sequence and the build-up play rather than just the finishing touches.

Not to take anything away from Alli but Harry Kane’s contribution should not be disregarded in the slightest and some were very quick to recognise is.

And while looking at glorious goals of the past is always fun, the fans want their team to continue doing that in the future as well, as some of them said they have to smash Arsenal once again, pointing out that it should be far easier this season than the last.

Money talks: How much did Levy pay for each of these Spurs stars?

One fan even urged Alli to do a repeat of that goal this weekend when Spurs face Chelsea.

Let’s see if he can actually do it.

In other news, Barcelona not being interested in one of Chelsea’s big stars might have some hidden implications…

Crystal Palace: Further worries emerge over Alfredo Morelos after red card vs Celtic

At the beginning of December, following Rangers’ 1-0 defeat to Celtic in the Betfred Cup final, we outlined how Alfredo Morelos’ performance provided cause for concern in regards to his potential to perform effectively in the Premier League.

Crystal Palace have incidentally been linked with a move for the Colombia international, who has netted a staggering 28 goals in all competitions while also grabbing nine assists, but that cup final against the Bhoys was worrying.

Morelos missed a penalty and failed to dispatch a number of golden chances as Steven Gerrard’s men fell to a 1-0 defeat, despite having 16 shots to the Bhoys’ five.

His blank against Neil Lennon’s side on that day was the tenth successive game that Morelos had failed to score against Celtic, which is worrying for his chances of performing capably in England’s top-flight.

In Sunday’s meeting between the two Scottish giants, Rangers managed to record a win, although Morelos continued his personal struggles against Celtic and extended his goalless run against them to 11 games.

In addition to not finding the back of the net, the 23-year-old picked up a yellow card for a petulant barge on Scott Brown, before receiving a second yellow after attempting to con the referee with a dive when in on goal.

Furthermore, Morelos missed a golden opportunity to extend Rangers’ lead when he skied an effort from just outside the six-yard box following a low delivery from the left flank.

The goalless streak against Celtic – arguably one of few sides whose quality is comparable to that of a Premier League team – is one thing, but Morelos’ incompetence at keeping himself out of trouble and on the pitch is another.

His most recent sending off was Morelos’ second of the current campaign, having also received five red cards last season.

Hodgson simply can’t afford to have a player within his starting XI who has an enormous chance of doing something silly and getting sent off, especially with VAR in play – something that the Scottish top-flight hasn’t installed.

In other news, this ex-Palace target showed Hodgson exactly what he’s missing with an efficient striking performance…
