Lasith Malinga is set to miss the first part of the 2020 IPL for Mumbai Indians. ESPNcricinfo understands Malinga will not be travelling to the UAE, where the IPL will be played from September 19 to November 10, and will miss the initial games due to personal reasons.It is understood Malinga’s father has been ill and may require surgery in the coming weeks. It’s fair to say that the Chelsea faithful will be slightly underwhelmed by the way their side performed last season.

Malang Sarr’s Chelsea career

In the summer of 2020, Chelsea signed a promising young centre-back named Malang Sarr, who joined on a free transfer from Nice.

However, there’s no other way of putting it; his time at Stamford Bridge has been a complete disaster.

After joining four years ago, he was instantly set on loan to Porto, where he made 27 appearances across all competitions.

The following season, the French ace remained at the Blues, making his first Premier League appearance against Brentford in a 1-0 win. Yet, the 25-year-old would only go on to feature seven more times that season, and as of today, his total Premier League appearances still remain at eight.

Malang Sarr’s salary at Chelsea

During the 2022/23 campaign, Sarr headed back to France in a bid to revive his career, joining AS Monaco on a season-long loan.

Despite playing in three of his first five games at the club, the left-footed defender began to slip down the pecking order, starting just eight times all season in Ligue 1.

But where is Sarr now, you may ask? Well, he’s currently still at Chelsea after a move to French side Le Havre broke down in the January transfer window.

His future is not at the Blues, and he’s even been forced to train with the U21 side after being banished from first-team training, but what exactly does he earn?

Back in 2020, when he originally joined, Sarr signed a five-year deal that takes him to June 2025, a year from now.

Yet, he’s currently earning an astounding £120k per week, which makes him the ninth-most-paid player at the club.

For context, this means that the centre-back earns a higher wage than both Gallagher and Jackson’s salaries are combined, £115k-per-week.

Sarr is also paid more than other important first-team members who feature week in and week out, such as Palmer, Malo Gusto, and even the departing Thiago Silva.

It’s impossible to see Sarr lasting past the summer transfer window, especially given he’s made no appearances at all this season and he’s earning a huge salary.

Overall, it’s quite clear that Sarr will not be part of the squad that Enzo Maresca is looking to rebuild with, and he must be sold as a priority; otherwise, he will continue to rinse Chelsea right up until his contract expires in 12 months.

تُشير المصادر إلى أن جوميز لم يجد الاستجابة الكاملة من إدارة النادي لطلباته الفنية، الأمر الذي زاد من رغبته في الرحيل، حيث إنه قرر دفع الشرط الجزائي المقدر براتب 3 أشهر، ومن ثم الرحيل نهائيًا.

تجدر الإشارة إلى أن جوميز لديه مستحقات متأخرة “راتب شهرين”، وبالتالي فإنه سيدفع المدرب قيمة راتب شهر واحد فقط من جيبه الخاص، ويتنازل عن راتب الشهرين ويفسخ العقد.

He will arrive to provide instant cover for Eddie Howe's backline, which is already without Jamaal Lascelles and Sven Botman for extended periods ahead of the beginning of next season.

With cover arguably needed for both Lascelles and Botman, however, Kelly is unlikely to be the last defender through the door at St James' Park this summer, with the likes of Dean Huijsen also linked with a move.

The original plan seemed to be landing a free deal for Fulham defender Tosin Adarabioyo at the end of his current contract in a replication of the Kelly deal, but Chelsea have since reportedly swooped in to turn the defender's head. Now, the Magpies have shifted their focus towards the Netherlands.

According to Dutch outlet AD, Newcastle are interested in a move to sign Lutsharel Geertruida from Feyenoord this summer. The right-back, who can also play as a centre-back and a defensive midfielder, has attracted the interest of Liverpool alongside the Magpies and could now have a decision to make in the coming months.

Newcastle will hope to counter Arne Slot's Feyenoord advantage at Liverpool with the fact that Geertruida is under the same agency as Harvey Barnes, who the Magpies signed just last summer. Still just 23 years old, the Feyenoord man could certainly solve Newcastle's defensive depth problem.

"Amazing" Geertruida can ease Botman blow

Whilst he could yet succeed Kieran Trippier at St James' Park, Geertruida's first task at Newcastle may well be to replace the injured Botman in Howe's side. Without the Dutchman, Newcastle run the risk of a slow start to the Premier League campaign, making their search for a short-term replacement, who can also serve a long-term purpose, crucial this summer.

It could even be argued that Geertruida would hand Howe quite the selection headache when Botman returns from injury. But that competition should only be seen as healthy as the Magpies look to make an instant return to European qualification next season.

According to CaughtOffside, Chelsea are now open to offers for Benoit Badiashile, despite spending £35m to secure his signature from AS Monaco a year ago. The centre-back is one of several stars who have struggled since making the move to Stamford Bridge in a summary of Chelsea's dilemma.

Maresca may hope that Adarabioyo's arrival will cover any potential loss and quickly turn into a wise business. Badiashile, meanwhile, will be wondering where it all went wrong if he does head for an early exit from the London giants. At his best, Badiashile has also been at the centre of praise. Former Monaco assistant manager Joao Tralhao told Sky Sports: "In terms of personality, he is very cold. He does not shake if he is playing against Mbappe or Neymar, if the stadium is empty or full. He is a very balanced boy. His character is outstanding. He focuses on what he must do to perform. وتابع: “أتمنى العودة لـ ريادة الكرة الإفريقية والوصول إلى كأس العالم وتحقيق نتائج مشرفة، المهمة صعبة ونحتاج إلى ثورة لـ إصلاح الكرة المصرية والتكليف للجنة الفنية مهمة ثقيلة، وهناك خبرات في اللجنة يستطيعون مساعدة الكرة في مصر”.

وبسؤاله عن مستقبل حسام حسن مع منتخب مصر، أوضح: “أرى أن ما يتم تداوله عن رحيل حسام حسن مجرد أوهام، والمدرب قدم أداءً متميزًا وخاصة بعد التأهل لـ أمم إفريقيا والاقتراب من التأهل إلى كأس العالم”.

واستطرد: “نحن كذلك نرغب في الفوز بـ الألقاب وتقديم مستوى يليق بـ منتخب مصر في كأس العالم وذلك يحتاج لـ كثير من العمل، ولكن سنحاول توفير كل أسباب النجاح لـ حسام حسن وليس مطلوبًا الحديث عنه كثيرًا”.
