Manchester United are in the market to sign a new defender after news that Luke Shaw could miss months of action, rather than weeks.

Who could replace Luke Shaw at Man United?

The Red Devils are thought to be considering three options, as per Fabrizio Romano.

The Italian journalist claims that Marc Cucurella at Chelsea is one possibility on a potential loan deal.

However, Sky Sports suggests it is a different Premier League left-back who is the subject of United's focus before the window closes on Friday evening.

They claimed on Saturday evening that Tottenham's Sergio Reguilon is now an option.

The £13m-rated full-back can leave Spurs before the market shuts, but they face competition from Fulham, who would no doubt be able to offer the player more game time in the long term.

How good is Sergio Reguilon?

Now 26, the Spaniard has endured a rough few years after trading Spanish football for the Premier League.

In the 2019/20 season, he played a pivotal role in Sevilla's Europe League triumph but has found consistency rather hard to come by since.

He hasn't played 30 league games once after moving to Spurs and was forced to move to Atletico Madrid last term on a loan deal in order to play more regularly. That said, he could only manage 11 La Liga outings in another difficult term.

That said, if any coach can extract the best from Reguilon, they would be unearthing a fine flying wing-back.

You only need to head back to that Europe League winning season to understand that.

Indeed, during that campaign he was compared, as per FBref, to former Real Madrid superstar Marcelo, and one of the best left-backs in the Premier League now, Pervis Estupinan.

At the time, Estupinan was playing at Osasuna before bursting onto the scene with Brighton a few years later.

That term, Reguilon ranked inside the best 3% of full-backs in La Liga for progressive carries and touches in the attacking penalty area, the top 7% for successful take-ons and the best 8% for shot-creating actions.

Those metrics paint the picture that the now Spurs man is an incredibly offensive asset on his day, one that would certainly help to fill the void that Shaw will leave behind while on the treatment table.

Estupinan, for comparison, sat inside the best 15% for shot-creating actions that same season, the top 6% for successful take-ons and the best 7% for progressive carries to illustrate their impressive range of similarities.

Of course, the Ecuadorian has been a great deal more impressive in the Premier League after he made his own move to English football, notably registering ten assists in 44 games to Reguilon's nine in 67 outings but the evidence is there that the Spaniard could make his mark in equal manner.

He has never really had the manager to extract the best from him at Tottenham. Antonio Conte's style of play, for instance, was too defensive even if he does prefer wing-backs in his system.

Ten Hag, however, could be a game-changer as far as Reguilon is concerned. It's just whether he sees himself achieving regular minutes once Shaw returns.

وأكدت فايزة العماري، في تصريحات منذ قليل، أن إيثان سيخطو على غرار شقيقه الأكبر، كيليان، حيث سيغادر صفوف باريس سان جيرمان.

وقالت فايزة العماري في تصريحات نشرتها شبكة “rmcsport” الفرنسية: “هل هناك أي عاطفة؟ من الواضح أن هناك طفلين يغادران النادي، لقد كانت سبع سنوات رائعة، وتم الاحتفال بها مع الموظفين بكل بساطة، كانت تلك السنوات ساحرة، باريس ساحرة”.

وتشير التقارير الصحفية إلى أن إيثان لن يغادر فرنسا حيث سينضم إلى صفوف ليل.

وعندما سُئلت عن الوجهة المقبلة لـ كيليان مبابي، أجابت “ولكنت تعرف بالفعل، على أي حال!”.

Abrir o placar no início, invariavelmente, muda a dinâmica do jogo, obriga o adversário a se expor mais e, por consequência, deixa o Fla mais confortável e com mais espaços para explorar com o ótimo ataque que tem à disposição.

Alas, the goal was chalked off and a mad finale soon ensued, although Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag will likely still have been impressed by the composed nature of the teenager's finish, with the aim now likely to try and find a starting berth for the 19-year-old once the international break is at an end.

How did Garnacho perform against Arsenal?

While the former Atletico Madrid ace was introduced off the bench with just a matter of minutes left to play at the weekend amid United's search for a winner, it is testament to his impact as a "game-changer" – as described by Manchester Evening News journalist Samuel Luckhurst – that he was able to make his mark just moments later, albeit with the goal not ultimately standing.

As Luckhurst noted in his post-match player ratings piece for MEN, the 5 foot 11 forward 'took his chance superbly' as he calmly slotted the ball past a sprawling Aaron Ramsdale, with that attempt an indication that the youngster is hoping to build on his tally of ten goals and assists in what was a breakthrough campaign last time out.

The issue at present is, however, that a starting role in the side looks hard to come by for the Madrid native, with Marcus Rashford's preference for playing off the left flank ensuring that Garnacho may have to play second fiddle to the Englishman in that wide berth.

That being said, however, with United having ended the game with Garnacho, Rashford and summer signing Rasmus Hojlund as an attacking triumvirate, Ten Hag must surely be seeking a way to persist with that front line moving forward, hence why slotting the teen speedster on the right flank could be the perfect solution.

Can Garnacho play on the right wing?

Although the £43m-rated wizard has typically lined up on the left during his embryonic senior career to date, he has also been deployed on the opposite flank throughout his time in the youth set-up on occasion, scoring four goals and providing four assists in just eight outings in that position in total.

With Rashford – who scored 30 goals last term – arguably the main man in attack, it is no doubt fair for Garnacho to be the player who is forced to shift role in the attacking unit, with the aim of ousting the struggling Antony.

The latter man has been a firm favourite of Ten Hag after signing from Ajax on an £86m deal last summer, although that continued faith in the 23-year-old from the Dutchman appears to be rather underserved, with the mercurial winger scoring just eight goals in 48 games for the club to date.

The Brazil international has also failed to fire so far this term after failing to provide a solitary goal or assist in the top flight this season, with it difficult to see the wisdom in persisting with such an unreliable asset.

There may be concerns over seeing Garnacho feature in what would be something of a new role, although the case of Diogo Dalot can be a reason for positivity, with the Portugal international having shone after being utilised as an unorthodox left-back option at the weekend.

A right-back by trade, the 24-year-old has been tasked with filling the void of the stricken Luke Shaw in recent games and – his sliding attempt to try and deny Jesus at the death aside – the former Porto ace was largely rather impressive up against the lively Bukayo Saka, having "defended really well" – according to club legend Gary Neville.

With Ten Hag having seen the benefits of making that albeit enforced tactical tweak, perhaps the 53-year-old can do the same by utilising Garnacho on the right flank once play resumes later this month.

Exactly two weeks ago, Vernon Philander was the toast of the South African attack after he completed a career-best 6 for 42 in the series-opening win over India. But two days after that, Philander’s performance was all but forgotten as Kagiso Rabada become the world’s top-ranked Test bowler. And in the last few days, both Philander and Rabada have taken a back seat after Lungi Ngidi announced himself with 6 for 39 on debut and won hearts and minds with his heartwarming backstory.If Philander was younger and less experienced, he might have been affected by how quickly attention can be lavished on a player and how quickly it can be taken away, but, as he approaches his 50th Test, Philander has become used to sharing the spotlight. Asked whether it was tough being part of a four-pronged pace pack, all of whom are stars in their own right, Philander admitted it could be, but only if he thought only about himself.”No, I think if you can put the ego aside. We all want to be that hero at the end of the day, to put up our hand and be the Man of the Match, but not every surface is going to allow it. So it’s about being mature enough to know that your end might not be the end to strike from, and to play accordingly to make sure the other guys get the best out of their end to strike,” Philander said, ahead of the Wanderers Test.Newlands, for example, is the ground on which Philander seems to perform best.
