He has also shown glimpses of being able to make an impact at first-team level with two goals and two assists in 15 senior appearances.

Cantwell, who is five years older than Lowry, has produced six goals and five assists across 20 outings for Rangers since his move from Norwich in January, which is a goal involvement every 1.82 clashes on average.

Both players are versatile attacking midfielders who can be utilised through the middle or out wide on the flank if needed and have the quality to score and create goals from those positions.

Lowry, who was once dubbed a "master" of the ball by Scottish coach Andy Goldie, may not be in Beale's immediate first-team plans, given that he has only played in one pre-season friendly, but a loan move could be the catalyst for him to push and fulfil his potential.

If the 5 foot 11 whiz is able to eventually translate his B-team form to senior football then he would be the dream heir to Cantwell as a huge attacking threat from midfield for the Light Blues over the coming years.

However, both clubs will face competition from Qatar and Saudi Arabia, which leaves the Algerian maestro with a big decision to make as to whether he remains in Europe or tries his luck elsewhere.

It is stated that the 29-year-old ace's desire is to remain with a European side but a lucrative offer from a Saudi Arabian club could possibly tempt him into changing his stance.

How good is Haris Belkebla?

The experienced 5 foot 10 campaigner has proven himself to be a superb ball-winning midfielder in Ligue 1 over the last few seasons and could be the dream replacement for James McCarthy, who has been touted with an exit from Parkhead.

Celtic signed the Ireland international in the summer of 2021 but he has been unable to nail down a regular starting spot and has been linked with a switch to the MLS this summer.

The arrival of Belkebla could allow Rodgers to sanction an exit for the 32-year-old dud and provide him with a better option in the defensive midfield position to compete with Hyeok-kyu Kwon this season.

Last term, the Algerian international played 38 Ligue 1 matches for Stade Brestois, which shows that he has experience of playing in a major European league, and caught the eye with 3.5 tackles and interceptions per game for his side.

This was 1.3 more per outing than any Celtic midfielder managed in the Scottish Premiership and 0.2 more than Kwon made for Busan IPark across 19 K League 2 matches earlier this year.

McCarthy, meanwhile, made one tackle and zero interceptions in two league outings last season, which came after he averaged 1.3 tackles and interceptions combined across ten appearances in his debut campaign in Scotland – as per Sofascore.

These statistics show that the Irish midfielder has not offered much protection to the back four throughout his time at Parkhead as the ex-Crystal Palace man has not been able to regularly win possession back for his side with key defensive interventions.

Therefore, Belkebla, who has made 127 Ligue 1 appearances in his career, could be a huge upgrade on McCarthy and provide Rodgers with a better option in the number six role due to his exceptional work off the ball to consistently cut out opposition attacks, which could come in handy against tough opposition in Europe.

Having another excellent defensive midfielder, alongside Kwon, could help Celtic when they come up against big sides in the Champions League who will be expected to dominate possession, as the Bhoys would have players who can prevent their goalkeeper and defence from being overly worked.

McCarthy's form for the Scottish giants over the last two years does not suggest that he has the quality to be good enough for that job, which is why Belkebla could be the dream replacement for the MLS-linked dud.

The players’ workload remains an ongoing conversation given the quantum of cricket India are playing in the immediate future: from September to December, they play 23 internationals – three Tests, 11 ODIs and nine T20Is – against Australia, New Zealand and Sri Lanka.Soon after the Sri Lanka series winds down, India are scheduled to tour South Africa for four Tests, five ODIs and three T20Is in January and February 2018. There are then two demanding tours to England and Australia later in 2018. Newcastle United have earmarked an unlikely midfield candidate this summer in Atletico Madrid's Marcos Llorente, and manager Eddie Howe is hoping to bring him to the Premier League.

That's following revelations from Spanish sources claiming that Llorente has been deemed dispensable at the Wanda Metropolitano and is consequently attracting interest from a smorgasbord of outfits across the globe – including the Magpies.

The piece notes that the one-time Real Madrid man – who is also attracting interest from clubs in Saudi Arabia – has 'received an offer' from those at St James' Park.

A possible fee has not been mentioned in the report, though last season Liverpool were vying for the 28-year-old's signature and a valuation of £35m had been touted.

If Howe does decide to forge ahead with a transfer, he could replicate his successful former foray into Atletico's transfer pool when he procured right-back Kieran Trippier at the same time as Guimaraes, spearheading the remarkable ascent to success.

Cricket West Indies (CWI) have announced the removal of the women’s management – coach Vasbert Drakes and his assistants Ezra Moseley and Stuart Williams – that oversaw a poor World Cup campaign in England, where they finished sixth among eight teams.CWI hopes to set up a new management support structure ahead of the home series against Sri Lanka starting on October 4.
