Chelsea Mulling Over Move For £65m-Rated Striker

Chelsea have placed Rasmus Hojlund on their list as a potential striker they could move for this summer, according to a report from Evening Standard.

Are Chelsea signing Rasmus Hojlund?

The 20-year-old currently plays his football in Italy for Atalanta and helped the side to a fifth place finish in Serie A this campaign thanks to his goals and assists. Having been played more times this year than ever before in his career – he featured in 32 league games for the side – he was able to produce his best ever goal haul of nine, and had two assists to boot.

In addition to that, when compared to some of the other strikers across the Men's 'Top Five' big leagues in Europe, he emerged as a leading attacker despite his youth. Hojlund's non-penalty xG rate of 0.47 per 90 for example led to him being ranked in the top 16% in his position over the course of the year – an excellent feat considering his relative inexperience and age.

With eleven progressive passes received per 90 too, he actually ranks in the 99% percentile for that figure. It shows that not only is he adept at hitting the back of the net but is able to make clever runs, get into good positions and receive the ball in dangerous areas.

This has led to interest from Manchester United in the Premier League but it appears they could now have a rival in their race to sign the player. That's because according to a report from Evening Standard, the player is on Chelsea's radar as a striker they could sign should other deals not materialise. Boss Mauricio Pochettino is looking at potential forwards to sign and Hojlund's name has cropped up as an alternative to Nicolas Jackson, who is mentioned in the same report.

Rasmus Hojlund of Atalanta

When does Rasmus Hojlund's contract expire?

With the player's deal only running out at Atalanta in 2027 – having only arrived in Serie A at the beginning of the campaign – they won't be too keen to let him go and could demand £65m for his signature according to this report.

However, his performances have clearly caught the eye of those at Stamford Bridge – and he's also impressed many in the game too – talent scout Jacek Kulig stated that the player is a "complete forward" and an "absolute monster". If the Blues desire a younger striker to lead the line for the club and to help Pochettino get the side back to winning ways, it appears as though that could be Hojlund.

Composed Brathwaite leads West Indies' recovery

Kraigg Brathwaite’s marathon 95* off 206 helped West Indies claw their way back from early trouble and have a shot at a first-innings lead over Pakistan in Sharjah

Pakistan rebounded from being bowled out for 281 to reduce West Indies to 38 for 3, but had to work much harder for their subsequent breakthroughs as Kraigg Brathwaite led his side back into contention with a gritty, unbeaten 95. Supported first by Roston Chase and then by Shane Dowrich, Brathwaite helped West Indies close on 244 for 6 after two hard-fought sessions.Confronted with a probing bowling effort, a slow outfield and horrid start from his top-order team-mates, Brathwaite maintained his composure and patience throughout his 206-ball vigil. Unlike the more free-flowing batsmen at the other end, he seldom tried to force the pace, content to play the ball late whenever he could. Nine of his ten fours came behind the wicket, the sole exception being a loft over mid-on off Zulfiqar Babar. After the three early wickets, Jermaine Blackwood briefly looked promising after lunch. However, his attacking instincts, and his seeming refusal to rein them in, soon led to his downfall. Having driven Mohammad Amir on the up for a boundary through cover, Blackwood tried to repeat the shot a few balls later. Only, this time, the delivery was slightly shorter and not quite there for the drive; Blackwood edged it to gully and departed for a run-a-ball 23.Chase was the next to keep Brathwaite company. In a productive period leading to tea, Chase hit a number of lovely cover drives, moving to 43 off 82 by the interval. He did have a few awkward moments against spin, though, with legspinner Yasir Shah luring him into some injudicious shots against the turn.Chase kept taking the bait and creamed Yasir for a big six over long-on to reach his fifty shortly after tea. Like Blackwood, however, he perished after one indiscretion too many. With left-armer Amir angling the ball across him from over the wicket, Chase went for an extravagant drive and only managed a thick edge to Younis Khan in the slips. That brought to an end an 83-run fifth-wicket partnership, but West Indies were still vulnerable at 151 for 5.Next, it was Dowrich’s turn to complement Brathwaite’s marathon knock. Dowrich hit several attractive boundaries during his 90-ball 47, and was particularly strong square of the wicket on the off side. But he had two major strokes of luck early in his innings. The first, with Dowrich on 15, came via a recurring theme – a Wahab Riaz no-ball. The bowler had enticed the batsman into chasing a full, wide delivery and edging it to Asad Shafiq at gully. But he had overstepped – for the 15th time in the series – and Dowrich lived on. A few overs later, Dowrich attempted to sweep Azhar Ali, and the ball hit the back of bat before looping to Younis at slip, who put down the chance after an elaborate juggle. It was around this time that things seemed to be slipping away from Pakistan. Leg-side deliveries were helped on their way to the fine-leg boundary. Dowrich unfurled some cracking strokes. The odd mis-hit landed safely. Wahab received two warnings for following through in the danger area. As the partnership ticked along past 60, then 70, then 80, West Indies seemed to be regaining the upper hand. But, against the run of play, Dowrich dragged an innocuous ball from Wahab onto his stumps, ending an 83-run stand. West Indies closed out the day 37 short of Pakistan’s first-innings total, with four wickets in hand. That was a markedly better outcome than they might have expected after a tumultuous morning session in which five wickets fell for 64 runs. Alzarri Joseph took the last two Pakistan wickets to bowl them out for 281, just 7.5 overs into the day, before Pakistan struck back through early breakthroughs.Amir troubled Leon Johnson in the first over by swinging the ball away from the left-hander, before Wahab dismissed him for 1 with a straight ball that trapped him in front. Then, towards the end of the first session, Darren Bravo miscued a cross-batted swing off Babar in the air towards cover, where Amir took a screamer of a catch. Soon after, Yasir trapped Marlon Samuels plumb in front and the batsman departed, but not before wasting a review. By lunch, West Indies were sinking deep into a hole.It was Brathwaite’s resolute knock that helped them steadily work their way out of it by the time the day was over.

Newcastle United Keeping Tabs On £25.7m-Rated Youngster

Newcastle United have placed Felix Nmecha on their wanted list for the summer transfer window having sent officials to see him play, according to Sky Germany journalist Philipp Hinze.

Are Newcastle United signing Felix Nmecha?

The player has only really burst onto the scene in the last two campaigns, having spent a lot of time in Manchester City's academy. He never made a league debut for the Premier League outfit before being sold on to Wolfsburg in Germany, where he has finally begun to get first-team football.

Having managed only one start in the Bundesliga for the side during his first season there, he really became a frequent member of the starting eleven in the 2022/23 campaign. Playing 30 times for them over the course of the campaign, he managed three goals and five assists from the centre of the field and ended up being a star member of the squad despite his age.

In addition, his showings have also led to him becoming one of the best statistically in his favoured position. When compared to other midfielders in the Men's 'Top Five' big leagues for example, he stands out as one of the very best at setting up his teammates. That's because his assist rate of 0.25 per 90 puts him within the top four percent in that area compared to other central players. It means that he clearly has excellent vision and a good eye for a pass to be able to tee up his teammates so often.

Germany midfielder Felix Nmecha

Now, according to a report from Sky Sports journalist Philipp Hinze, Nmecha may have the chance to return to England and prove himself in a first-team.

That's because Newcastle have reportedly been keeping tabs on his situation with Wolfsburg and have spent the last season sending club officials to watch him in action. He is "also" on their list alongside James Maddison and Dominik Szoboszlai.

How much is Felix Nmecha worth?

Hinze reports a potential asking price of up to 30 million Euros (or about £26m). No bid has been made yet but it does seem as if he is certainly on the Magpies' radar, and that price would surely fall within their transfer structure, having been a bit more shrewd than many would have expected since the takeover.

He's already been praised highly for his performances in Germany, with football journalist Josh Bunting stating that Nmecha has an "intelligent eye" and that also his "technical ability is good".

Despite being just 22-years-old, he already seems to possess the qualities to add some guile and playmaking ability to the Newcastle side – and considering his age, the potential is there for him to get even better for them under Howe's guidance.

Jennings confirmed for debut in Mumbai

England have confirmed that 24-year old Keaton Jennings will make his Test debut against India on Thursday

George Dobell in Mumbai07-Dec-2016Alastair Cook has confirmed that Keaton Jennings will make his Test debut in the fourth Test against India in Mumbai on Thursday, but Stuart Broad’s foot injury looks increasingly likely to sideline him once again.Jennings, the South African-born son of coach and former player Ray Jennings, only arrived in Mumbai on Monday having been called up from the England Lions squad in the UAE to replace the injured Haseeb Hameed. He will be Cook’s 11th opening partner since the retirement of Andrew Strauss in August 2012.While Jennings’ preparation is not perfect, Cook said he was reminded of his own debut “10 years ago” when he flew into India 48 hours ahead of the game and hit a century in the Nagpur Test of 2006.Cook also described Broad’s chances of playing as 50:50. Broad sustained his foot injury during the Visakhapatnam Test and subsequently missed the game in Mohali. While he bowled in training on Tuesday, the England camp have yet to make a decision over his involvement. However, Broad took a peripheral part in Wednesday’s practice – he was referee in the football match that precedes England’s training sessions – and did not bowl. He therefore looks most unlikely to be cleared fit to play on Thursday. That leaves England with a choice to make over who to play in his place. Liam Dawson provides the all-round option and could come in for his debut, though Jake Ball, the seamer, may have sneaked in front of Steven Finn in the pecking order.Meanwhile Cook played down any hint of a difference of opinion between himself and the England coach, Trevor Bayliss.Bayliss has recently stated that he would take more of a vocal role in preparation for the final two Tests of the series to remind England that they play at their best, in his view, when they are attempting to be more positive. But while that could have been interpreted as a contradiction of Cook’s views – Cook had decided England would try to block their way to safety in the fourth innings in Vizag – he insists that is not the case. And while he admitted his own style of batting was less overtly positive than most of his colleagues’, he believes there is no clash between his own ethos and that of his coach.”It was clearly a message I knew was coming out,” he said. “We chatted at the end of that game as a leadership group and discussed how we wanted to play and what had happened since our first game when we scored at three-and-a-half runs an over at Rajkot.”We do have to take the second innings at Vizag out of it because I wonder if there was a hangover from that as we did go back into our shells.”The clear message is that we want to play a bit more aggressively with positive intent because Trevor likes that and it was the message in his first game with us. Rajkot was our blueprint and we played really well there and hopefully we can go back to that level.”I think our philosophies are the same. My batting over a long period of time has been about wearing the opposition down and batting for long periods but that doesn’t change my intent.””There are definitely different approaches. It’s not just about hitting fours and sixes. It’s the intent to score runs and it’s a good message we need to keep banging on about.”

England's flogging could sway Cook – Bayliss

Trevor Bayliss admitted England had been ‘totally outplayed’ by India on the fourth day in Chennai as they conceded the largest total in their history

The England coach Trevor Bayliss admitted his team had been “totally outplayed” by India on the fourth day in Chennai as they conceded the largest total in their history. And Bayliss, who leaves the tour on Monday night to return to Australia for a hernia operation, conceded such a chastening day might influence Alastair Cook as he reflects on whether he wants to continue as England captain.Criticising England’s bowling and catching, Bayliss, who has supervised the fielding training for the last 18 months in the absence of a specialist fielding coach, also suggested there was a lack of captaincy experience in the squad should Cook decide to step down but agreed that Joe Root was the “leading candidate.””We got totally outplayed today, for sure,” Bayliss said. “We just weren’t in the game today.”You’ve got to give credit to the Indian batters, who played extremely well. But at times we struggled to bowl to the fields that the captain had set. That just makes it very difficult.”Our catching is still below par – I think the last three catches we’ve dropped have only cost us 500 – and that’s disappointing and something we’ve got to keep working on. There’s no short cut to that – we’ve just got to do a lot of it. We’re a team that probably haven’t got a lot of natural athletes. We’ve got some very good cricketers but we haven’t got a lot of slippers. We’ve just got to get better. It’s as simple as that.”Asked whether such a tough day could have a bearing on Cook’s decision, Bayliss said “possibly” but stated that he would not attempt to persuade him either way.”That’s a decision only he will know the answer to,” he said. “He’s done it for so long, whether I say yes or no, it won’t change his mind whether he keeps going or stops. I’m not big on the technology, but I’m sure we’ll speak on the phone at some stage over Christmas.”If he keeps going, fantastic; if he stops, that’s up to him, and I’ve got no problems with that either. I won’t actually sit down to have a chat with him. We’ve got six or seven months till our next Test match, so there’s plenty of time for him to have a think about it.”I don’t think there’s too many of our players who’ve actually captained too many teams, or any of their county teams.”Joe Root has done a few games on tour, when Cookie’s had a bit of time off or when he’s off the ground. Joe is obviously our number one bat, and is highly-respected by the players. He’s one of those guys who leads by example, and I can’t see that being any different when and if he takes over … if he takes over, I suppose, because we haven’t actually made that decision either.”That will come next if Cookie does step down. But he seems like he’s the leading candidate at this stage.”If it seems odd that Bayliss is leaving the tour slightly early – it was unclear why he could not wait the extra day – it is in part because he wishes to return for the limited-overs leg having made a full recovery. He is scheduled to miss the Caribbean tour in February and March.

Man Utd Want "Monster" £86m Kane Alternative

Manchester United could be set to acquire another Scandinavian striker in the form of Rasmus Hojlund, who will surely seek to follow in the footsteps of a former Old Trafford great.

What's the latest on Rasmus Hojlund to Manchester United?

Having been linked for the bulk of the summer, the latest to come out of this saga is an updated price tag. The Daily Mail suggested that Atalanta will demand a fee of around €100m (£86m), which whilst mouth-watering is still lower than what Tottenham Hotspur wanted for Harry Kane.

The England captain was expected to fetch a £100m fee, and as such Erik ten Hag has cooled his interest in the 29-year-old. He will look elsewhere, and that search could land on this young finisher.

Transfer insider Dean Jones even suggested that it might not be such a bad move, and he told Football FanCast: "I mean Solskjær was just such a good fit for Man United in terms of he had all the ability and none of the ego that you needed for a player that was coming into a strike force of such a high level.

"So they would love a player like Hojlund who could have that Solskjær effect on this team, but also not throw their toys out of the pram were they left on the bench."

Would Rasmus Hojlund be a success at Manchester United?

Although the free-scoring Kane would likely be atop everyone's list, his age profile would make this a deal for the present rather than the future.

So often this club have prioritised instant success over long-term growth, and it has left them light years away from their rivals. For once they must show some foresight to invest in youth and admit that silverware might have to take a back seat in pursuit of the creation of a dynasty.

Should Hojlund join and develop like he very well can, Ten Hag could secure his perfect number nine for the next decade.

After all, the 20-year-old is coming off the back of a term where he scored 16 goals and assisted a further seven in all competitions.

This is a far cry from the 32 that Kane notched or the double figures he has hit every year in the league since 2014, but turning 30 next month, his presence at the top of the game has a time limit.

harry-kane-manchester-united-spurs

Meanwhile, the Denmark international has only recently been branded a "monster in the making" by Football Talent Scout Jacek Kulig, suggesting he is far from his final form despite already tearing up Italian football.

Should he have that same lethal finishing touch as Ole Gunnar Solskjær, who recorded 176 goal contributions in 366 games for the Manchester club and won nine major honours, then it would be an investment worth making.

After all, his tireless work rate, proficiency in front of goal and patency for a one-touch strike all emphasise these comparisons.
