Chelsea £80k p/w Ace May Have Played For Final Time

Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount may have played his last game at Stamford Bridge due to an injury that has ruled him out for the rest of the campaign amid interest from elsewhere, says journalist Ben Jacobs.

What's the latest news involving Mason Mount?

As per The Daily Mail, Mount has undergone surgery to alleviate symptoms of pain in his abdominal region, though he is set to miss the rest of this season to take the time he needs to recover.

Mount took to social media to provide an update on how his surgery went, stating: "Had a minor procedure yesterday to sort out a discomfort I had for a while. Everything went well and I'm feeling good. Time to rest but can't wait to get back to training in the coming weeks! Thanks for all your messages of support and a massive thank you to the medical team, doctors and nurses for looking after me."

The 24-year-old has been at the centre of an impasse over his contract situation at Stamford Bridge, which has prompted the likes of Liverpool, Bayern Munich and Arsenal to show an interest in his services heading into the summer transfer window, as per Football Insider.

Capology understand that the Portsmouth-born midfielder earns around £80,000 per in west London on a deal that is set to expire in June 2024.

Speaking to Football FanCast, journalist Jacobs believes that Mount may have played his last game for Chelsea in light of his recent struggles with injury.

Jones told FFC: "Now, it'd be interesting to see whether Chelsea escalate that at all, because Mount has just undergone minor surgery on a pelvic injury and there's no guarantee that he'll be back between now and the end of the season. If he is, it's likely to only be for the final game. With Mount sidelined, there is a logic in my view, anyway, that you start the talks a little bit earlier and you try and bring some stability. Otherwise, there's a danger now that Mount doesn't play for Chelsea again if he's not fit by the time that final game of the season comes."

Should Chelsea look to keep hold of Mason Mount this summer?

Realistically, that decision will come down to whoever is chosen to fill Chelsea's vacant managerial position at Stamford Bridge, with Mauricio Pochettino said to be 'inching closer' to being confirmed as Graham Potter's permanent successor, as per 90min.

Mount has made 35 appearances for Chelsea this term across all competitions, notching three goals and nine assists, as per Transfermarkt.

Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount claps the fans as the Blues lose in the Premier League to Aston Villa.

FBRef also shows that Mount has been a regular provider of chances in 2022/23 for the Blues, carrying out 83 shot-creating actions in total.

Undoubtedly, his consistency has flickered this campaign as Chelsea have struggled on the field; however, by appointing Pochettino, the Argentinian coach could give a new lease of life to Mount in 2023/24 if the England international is to stay put in west London.

Arsenal: Gunners Make Offer To Sign "Cheeky" Forward

Arsenal have made a "proposal" to Barcelona starlet Ilias Akhomach who looks set to leave as a free agent in June, according to reports out of Spain.

What's the latest Arsenal transfer news?

The Premier League title-chasers could still make history, having waited nearly 20 years for another league crown, but as things stand, Man City are firmly in the driving seat.

Boasting a game in hand and one-point advantage, the race is in Pep Guardiola's hands, and Arsenal have to be perfect to stand any chance of pipping them to top spot.

Mikel Arteta's side have it all to do, but even if they miss out, you can make the strong argument that this has been a simply brilliant season with Champions League football guaranteed.

In the background, sporting director Edu will be working on summer transfer targets ahead of next campaign, with midfield reinforcement thought to be a top priority.

West Ham star Declan Rice, alongside Brighton's Moises Caicedo, have been heavily linked with a move to north London – meanwhile Arteta is also said to want additions further forward.

According to a report by Sport, Barca prodigy and exciting young attacker Akhomach is a player of real interest, with the 19-year-old apparently receiving a "proposal" to join Arsenal.

There isn't any further detail on this alleged offer, but he could well be on the move this summer, as his renewal is proving complicated.

Arsenal have also been boosted by Leeds' collapsed move for Akhomach, but they aren't the only elite side who have made an approach.

Both Sevilla and AC Milan are also in the running, making proposals of their own, with this update hinting the teenager's future could be far away from Catelonia.

What could Akhomach bring to Arsenal?

Despite not exactly having the season of his life over 2022/2023, scoring just one goal in 23 league appearances for Barca's youth side, Akhomach still arguably possesses plenty of promise.

Xavi has even handed the Spaniard his first team debut already, in both La Liga and the Copa del Rey, with former Barcelona B manager Francisco Javier García Pimienta tipping Akhomach to be a big success back in 2020.

Pimienta explained (via Sport):

“He’s a cheeky, brave player with a lot of quality, but he’s only 16. We have very young players and we can’t load them with too much responsibility.

“What’s clear is that the academy is bringing through a lot of players and he’s one that we will have in mind this season, for sure.”

Perhaps Akhomach can re-discover his best form in England and working under a manager like Arteta, especially since Barca youth boss Rafa Marquez apparently views the player as expendable.

On-song Sri Lanka pose threat in shortened format

ESPNcricinfo previews the first ODI of the series between England and Sri Lanka

The Preview by Andrew Miller20-Jun-2016Match factsTuesday, June 21
Start time 2pm local (1300 GMT)3:10

‘Morgan form a bit of a concern’

Big pictureThe most recent shot played in contests between England and Sri Lanka was a vast six over midwicket, as Kusal Mendis dispatched Joe Root’s offspin into the Tavern Stand during the soggy last rites of the third Test at Lord’s. An irrelevance in the bigger picture, maybe, after England’s thumping victories in the first two Tests at Headingley and Chester-le-Street, but an indication nonetheless of a squad with renewed confidence. It has taken them several weeks to come to terms with the challenge of English conditions, but as the tour shifts focus from the five-day to the one-day formats, so too has the distance between the sides narrowed. Sri Lanka’s valiant showing in that Lord’s Test has been followed up by a brace of thumping victories over Ireland in Dublin – precisely the sort of challenge for which a demoralised outfit might have struggled to raise itself.Instead, they enter the first ODI against England at Trent Bridge with expectation as well as hope. On the 2014 tour, they picked up the spoils in all three formats and though the Tests have eluded them time around, their draw at Lord’s has at least left the nascent Super Series with the faintest of pulses. Sri Lanka trail 10-2 with 12 points still up for grabs in the coming six matches – therefore a 5-0 clean sweep (as Sri Lanka achieved on the 2006 tour) would leave the fate of the series hanging on next month’s one-off T20.Sri Lanka have, however, suffered another shocking moment of misfortune where their bowling attack is concerned, with the news of Shaminda Eranga’s hospitalisation for an irregular heartbeat. He would have been ruled out of the series anyway, after the ICC confirmed on Sunday that his bowling action – reported as suspect during the Durham Test – has been found to be illegal, but such health concerns make other issues pale into insignificance. With Dhammika Prasad and Dushmantha Chameera already ruled out of the tour with injury, Sri Lanka’s fast-bowling stocks are running alarmingly low. That said, Dasun Shanaka’s wobbly seamers were an incisive threat against Ireland, and with a glut of allrounders in their ranks, Sri Lanka are adept at cobbling together combinations for all conditions. England, who have lost each of their last three ODIs, following the collapse of their resolve against South Africa earlier this year, will be taking little for granted.Eoin Morgan and Angelo Mathews pose with the series trophy•Getty Images

Form guideEngland: LLLWW (last five matches, most recent first)
Sri Lanka: WWLWLIn the spotlightFrom his integral role at the World T20, and then on through his maiden stint with Mumbai Indians in the IPL, Jos Buttler has been both central and peripheral to England’s fortunes in the past few months. Ever since his axing from the Test team in November, Buttler has been regarded as a one-day specialist, but the emphasis where he is concerned is clearly on the “special”. A player of such phenomenal power, poise and technique has been absorbing lesson after lesson during an invaluable sojourn in India, and those are now ripe for translation back into the ODI arena.Kusal Perera was a notable and frustrated absentee from Sri Lanka’s World T20 campaign – the mysteries surrounding his failed drugs test deprived a young player of one of the highlights of his career, and his team of one of their likelier game-changers – how different that seminal group-stage clash against England in Delhi might have been with his explosive qualities at the top of the order. He hinted that he was in a hurry to resume his career with a lively cameo in the Lord’s Test. The coming weeks will surely remind everyone of what Sri Lanka have been missing in recent months.Team newsBen Stokes’ absence in England’s middle order creates a minor dilemma for the selectors, who will surely be tempted to unleash Jonny Bairstow’s sky-high batting confidence, albeit at the expense of a modicum of team balance. Moeen Ali can expect to slot in at No.7, Steven Finn is fit to resume his role as the leader of England’s ODI attack, while Chris Woakes and David Willey provide contrasting swing options with right and left-arm respectively. Eoin Morgan, the captain, is somewhat short of runs in recent England outings, but he is set to appear at No. 4.England (possible): 1 Jason Roy, 2 Alex Hales, 3 Joe Root, 4 Eoin Morgan (capt), 5 Jos Buttler (wk), 6 Jonny Bairstow, 7 Moeen Ali, 8 Chris Woakes, 9 Chris Jordan, 10 David Willey, 11 Steven Finn.Sri Lanka’s batting order is anyone’s guess, let alone their actual line-up, following the contests in Malahide in which two nominal frontline batsmen, Kusal Mendis and Upul Tharanga, popped in at No. 8 and 9 respectively. Seekkuge Prasanna’s devastating pinch-hitting in the second contest pillaged nine sixes in a thrilling 95 from 46 balls, so he’ll be ripe for another foray up the order if the mood takes him. Eranga’s absence leaves a vacancy in the seam-bowling ranks, so there is potential for a recall for the offspinner, Suraj Randiv.Sri Lanka (possible): 1 Kusal Perera, 2 Danushka Gunathilaka, 3 Kusal Mendis, 4 Upul Tharanga, 5 Dinesh Chandimal (wk), 6 Angelo Mathews (capt), 7 Dasun Shanaka, 8 Farveez Maharoof, 9 Seekkuge Prasanna, 10 Suraj Randiv / Nuwan Pradeep, 11 Suranga LakmalPitch and conditionsThere’s little prospect of Trent Bridge offering the sort of 400 v 400 belter on which Nottinghamshire and Northants went toe-to-toe earlier this month. Since June 10, when the game against Derbyshire was washed out, the groundsman reckons the pitch has had four hours of sun and 100mm of rain.Stats and trivia It’s not the most obvious home from home, but Sri Lanka have a remarkable recent record in ODIs in England. In the past decade, they have beaten their hosts in 11 of their 16 encounters in England, with two series wins out of three, plus a one-off win in the 2013 Champions Trophy. However, Sri Lanka won’t recall their last visit to Trent Bridge with much fondness. They were thumped by 10 wickets in 2011 en route to a 3-2 series loss, with Alastair Cook, no less, making 95 from 75 balls. Angelo Mathews goes into the match with exactly the same number of runs (4140) in both his Test and ODI careers. Alex Hales needs 38 more runs to reach 1000 in ODIs. To judge by his recent record, he should be odds-on. In South Africa, he made five consecutive ODI scores of fifty-plus: 57, 99, 65, 50 and 112. One more would set a new record for an England batsman.Quotes”It’s a key summer in that we’re 12 months down the road and we have built a lot of confidence. There’s a bit more expectation on us as a side and it’s important to relish that expectation.”
“We need more guys coming to England and playing a lot of cricket to get used to these conditions. The more you play you more you get used to them so we need more guys coming in, playing league cricket, county cricket, that’ll be very beneficial for us going into the World Cup in 2019.

Man United Place £52m-Rated Midfielder On Wanted List

Manchester United have added another midfielder to their wanted list this summer, with Martin Zubimendi the latest name to be linked with the club according to reports in Spain, via Sport Witness.

Who is Man United target Martin Zubimendi?

The 24-year-old midfielder has thrived this season with Real Sociedad, currently helping his side to fourth place in the La Liga table. This year, he has managed to play in 32 league outings for the side and has one goal with two assists.

Having burst onto the scene with a 31 game season back in the 2020/21 campaign, the midfielder has since gone on to establish himself as a first-team regular with his club, famed for his ability to read the game, break up opposition attacks and spread the ball around. Now, despite still being early on in his career, the player has already racked up 109 domestic appearances for Sociedad.

However, it's his performances in Europe that have clearly caught the eye. Playing four times and producing a rating of 6.67 via WhoScored, Zubimendi crossed paths with Man United – and that has now led to interest in his services from the Red Devils.

According to reports from Spain via Sport Witness, the Premier League scouts liked what they saw of the midfielder during their clashes with Real Sociedad in Europe and would be willing to "double" his current salary. It also mentions that the La Liga outfit are aware that Erik Ten Hag's side have registered an interest but also that they don't intend to sell the player – unless, of course, a club triggers his release clause.

That currently stands at 60 million Euros (£52m). If United are keen to add the player to their squad then, it seems they would need to stump up that amount to seal a deal.

Should Man United sign Zubimendi?

If Man United want to add some strength and depth to their midfield during the close season, then they could certainly do a lot worse than Zubimendi.

Even with other stars around him, he has been identified as a "brilliant" player by football talent scout Jacek Kulig, who picked him out for specific praise for his showings in Spain. He has averaged a rating on WhoScored of 6.70 in La Liga as well this campaign, which showcases just how solid he already is in the centre of the field. With 1.8 tackles and 1.1 interceptions per game this year, he looks like a potential successor for Casemiro.

The Red Devils then could have a gem on their hands if they do opt to sign the midfielder.

Hosts face long odds as Test cricket returns to Bulawayo

For all the feelings of excitement at Test cricket’s return to Bulawayo, there is the reality that the home side will find themselves overwhelmed by the sheer gulf between their visitors and themselves in every way

The Preview by Firdose Moonda in Bulawayo27-Jul-2016Match factsJuly 28-August 1, Bulawayo
Start time 09:30 local (07:30 GMT)Eleven matches into his Test career, Graeme Cremer prepares to take the reins•West Indies Cricket

Big pictureFor all the feelings of excitement at Test cricket’s return to Bulawayo, there is the reality that the home side will find themselves overwhelmed by the sheer gulf between their visitors and themselves in every way.In personnel terms, New Zealand, albeit without recently retired Brendon McCullum, bring 379 Test caps between them to Bulawayo. Zimbabwe have just 86 and, of those, a third belong to one man – Hamilton Masakadza – who was relieved of the captaincy in May. Masakadza will no doubt operate as senior counsel to new captain Graeme Cremer, who will lead the Test side for the first time. His counterpart, Kane Williamson, is also on his maiden outing as Test captain, but has experienced heads like Martin Guptill and Ross Taylor to turn to.One of the first things they would remind Williamson of was how hard Zimbabwe pushed them the last time the sides met at Queens. In November 2011, the match went down to the last session of the last day before New Zealand eventually claimed the honours. Since then, Zimbabwe visited New Zealand, were soundly beaten, and have played just 10 other Test matches.New Zealand went only to play four times that number and are a much more assured side than they were five years ago. Although they have lost two of their last three Test series, both against Australia, they had been on a solid run before that. They drew in England and the UAE, and beat Sri Lanka away, West Indies away and India at home. Their climb up the Test rankings has not been as dramatic as their headline-grabbing showings in limited-overs cricket but it has been steady, and they now find themselves at No.5. If the idea of two Test divisions ever becomes a reality, New Zealand would play in the top division, as things stand. At the moment, Zimbabwe can only dream of getting there. Their dearth of fixtures has left them without a ranking at all, but after this series it is likely they will be on the table, joining at the bottom. They will want this to be a fresh start, so they can gradually set their sights on greater things.Form guide Zimbabwe LLLLW
New Zealand LLWWLIn the spotlightInjuries to Tinashe Panyangara and Tendai Chatara have left Zimbabwe’s pace pack with just two Test caps among four of them, and the lack of experience could be a cause for concern. Njabulo Ncube and Donald Tiripano have played a Test each while Michael Chinouya and Taurai Muzarabani are uncapped. The quartet have had the experience of Makhaya Ntini, South Africa’s third-highest wicket-taker of all time, to draw on but may need to find the right balance between attacking and containing on what could be a stubborn surface.Leg spin has been known to be a nemesis for Zimbabwean batsmen so Ish Sodhi’s role could be the most important in the New Zealand attack. Sodhi caused problems for Zimbabwe A during last week’s warm-up match at Harare Sports Club, when he took six wickets in total, including that of Test keeper Regis Chakabva twice. He will also be heartened by what he may see from the most recent match played at Queens, between Zimbabwe A and South Africa A. Despite a largely batsman-friendly surface, Keshav Maharaj and Dane Piedt took seven wickets between them to win the match for the tourists.Team newsThe hosts will cap at least one new player either at the top of the order or in the spin department. Prince Masvaure, who scored a century in the match between Zimbabwe A and South Africa A, could open in Vusi Sibanda’s absence. Masvaure will have to be joined by one of Brian Chari or Chamu Chibhabha after Tino Mawoyo was ruled out with a hand injury. The No.4 spot left vacant by Brendan Taylor is likely to be filled by one of Sikandar Raza or Peter Moor, with the other slotting in at No. 5. With plenty of slower bowling options in the middle order, Zimbabwe could field just two quicks, of which one may be a debutant.Zimbabwe: (probable) 1 Prince Masvaure, 2 Chamu Chibhabha/Brian Chari, 3 Hamilton Masakadza, 4 Peter Moor, 5 Sikandar Raza, 6 Craig Ervine, 7 Regis Chakabva (wk), 8 Sean Williams, 9 Graeme Cremer (capt), 10 Donald Tiripano/Michael Chinouya, 11 Njabulo NcubePlaying their first Test since McCullum’s retirement, New Zealand will be led by Kane Williamson for the first time. Henry Nicholls will fill in at No.4, and is surrounded by a strong line-up. With several spin options in their squad, New Zealand could opt for two spinners and two quicks with Doug Bracewell as their all-round option.New Zealand: (probable) 1 Martin Guptill, 2 Tom Latham, 3 Kane Williamson (capt), 4 Henry Nicholls, 5 Ross Taylor, 6 BJ Watling (wk), 7 Doug Bracewell 8 Ish Sodhi, 9 Tim Southee, 10 Mark Craig/Michael Santner 11 Trent Boult/Matt Henry/Neil WagnerPitch and conditionsThe scarcity of Test cricket at Queens means there’s not much historical data to go on, but conventional wisdom suggests that the surface will be slow and low, favouring an old-fashioned style of play. The match between Zimbabwe A and South Africa A which took place earlier this month may be the best indicator of what to expect. Brian Vitori, who played in that match, described the surface as flat and scores of 570 and 356 are evidence of that. However, turn came into play on the final day which suggests there may be some deterioration as the sun beats down. The late winter conditions are expected to be pleasant, with clear skies and temperatures in the mid-20s over the five days.Stats and trivia In 15 matches, Zimbabwe have never won a Test against New Zealand and have lost nine. Their record is poorer only against Sri Lanka, against whom they have lost 10 and won none. Since Zimbabwe and New Zealand last played each other in a Test in January 2012, New Zealand have played 40 Test matches and Zimbabwe just 10.Quotes”A few guys will remember that feeling and will know it’s not impossible to put them under pressure and to do well.”
.”We are going to play in a way that tries to give us the best chance of winning. It is tough to win here. We know we’ll have to adapt quickly and be at our best. You don’t tend to get pace and bounce like in other part so the world. It’s about adapting, thinking on your feet.”

Aston Villa Could Sign ‘Amazing’ Talent To Rival McGinn

Aston Villa are reportedly already looking to strengthen this summer as the end of the Premier League season is in sight.

The Villans have turned their fortunes around since hiring Unai Emery as manager in November, with the Spaniard rocketing the club from slugging near the relegation zone to two games away from clinching European football.

The Spaniard has installed faith into the squad he inherited from Steven Gerrard and has turned his players into a team that is hungry for success and steers away from fear.

Things are on the up for Villa, and the club have been linked with having a lucrative summer in the transfer window, in a bid to give Emery the chance to personalise his squad.

From La Liga to Serie A and the Premier League, a number of players have already been linked with a potential move to Villa Park when the window opens, with news coming earlier this month of interest in a Ligue 1 midfielder.

What’s the latest on Branco van den Boomen to Aston Villa?

As reported by Fabrizio Romano at the start of the month, Toulouse midfielder Branco van den Boomen has sparked interest from Aston Villa amongst a host of clubs around Europe.

The Dutchman has reportedly opted away from signing a new deal with the Ligue 1 outfit, with his contract expiring this summer.

Romano stated the player has decided to keep his 'options open', with interest coming from the likes of Marseille, Sevilla, Leeds United and of course Villa.

What could Branco van den Boomen bring to Aston Villa?

At 27 years old, the Eindhoven-born midfielder has enjoyed a successful season so far in Ligue 1, contributing to a total of 13 goals in 33 appearances.

The Dutchman has scored five times in the league and has assisted eight goals, ranking him among Europe’s elite statistically.

As per FBref, the midfielder ranks in the top 3% of midfielders for most assists per 90 over Europe’s top five leagues, averaging 0.26.

Likened by FBref to Christian Eriksen, the creative spark could be an upgrade for Emery to consider for John McGinn, to provide depth to his squad.

McGinn has performed well under the Spaniard, however, could reach higher levels should competition such as Van den Boomen arrive at Villa Park this summer.

The Toulouse star betters the Scotsman specifically in the attacking areas of midfield, most obviously through his ability to move the ball forward, averaging a remarkable 9.69 progressive passes to McGinn’s 4.78 per 90 – as per FBref.

Also a "master of set-pieces" as dubbed by George Metellus and a player who can "score from anywhere on the pitch", there is plenty to like about a player who last term, broke the assist record in Ligue 2 with 21 across the entire season.

Further described as having an “amazing right foot” by his Toulouse teammate Stijn Spierings, van den Boomen could be a strong signing for Emery’s budding side and a player that could add the depth required to progress.

Liverpool Could Lose 20 y/o Player This Summer

Liverpool youngster Fabio Carvalho is wanted by Burnley on a permanent deal in the summer transfer window, according to a new update.

How has Carvalho fared at Liverpool?

The 20-year-old joined the Reds from Fulham last year, being seen as an exciting young signing who could have a similar trajectory to Harvey Elliott, who also arrived from the Cottagers.

While Carvalho was seen as a long-term acquisition, the hope was still that he would play a positive role from the off, acting as a strong squad player, but he has had a tough first season on Merseyside. While his winning goal at home to Newcastle United back in August was a high point, he has only scored three times in all competitions, failing to register an assist along the way.

He hasn't played a full 90 minutes since the 7-1 win away to Rangers in the Champions League in October, further highlighting how far down the pecking order he has been. While time is still very much on Carvalho's side, it could be that Liverpool already don't see a future for him, following a fresh claim.

Liverpool's Fabio Carvalho

Could Carvalho leave Reds this summer?

According to Football Insider, "Burnley are keen on signing" Carvalho this summer, eyeing him up on a permanent basis. A loan moving is also in the offing, however, which could be the Reds' preference, allowing him to gain more experience and playing time elsewhere.

The Clarets enjoyed a memorable season in the Championship, cruising to the title glory under Vincent Kompany, and Carvalho could view Turf Moor as a good place to go in the coming months.

In truth, a loan move may still be the best option for the attacking midfielder this summer, with the idea of selling him permanently something that feels too knee-jerk at this point in his career. He is still so young, and has been part of a struggling Liverpool team this season, so cutting all ties with him could be risky.

Carvalho is still raw and has plenty of learning to do, but the ingredients are still there to make it at a high level, having been lauded as "unbelievable" by Jurgen Klopp, also scoring 10 goals and registering eight assists for Fulham last season, helping them gain promotion to the Premier League in the process.

All parties could benefit from a loan move coming to fruition, so that may well be the best outcome, with Carvalho possibly returning to Liverpool a more rounded player this time next year.
