Arsenal are flying of late, with a team full to the brim with talented youngsters who are already starring on the biggest stage and at the highest level.
However, it is Mikel Arteta's older and more experienced core that truly ties the squad together. Without the likes of Thomas Partey and Granit Xhaka, none of the success they are currently enjoying would be possible.
Both of these midfield maestros have been imperative in their unlikely title charge, missing few games between them to maintain stability in the engine room.
However, they will not be around forever.
The latter in particular, who turns 31 in September, is entering the twilight years of his tumultuous career that could end with the most unlikely of Premier League winners medal.
As such, his role is one that needs filling with immediacy.
Fortunately for Gunners fans, and even Arteta himself, Feyenoord's Orkun Kokcu marks an incredibly viable option.
Who is Orkun Kokcu?
As noted by The Sun late last week, the Turkish midfielder has emerged as a target for both the north London outfit and Brighton and Hove Albion. To be involved in a transfer battle with a side boasting such a commendable transfer policy suggests that they are certainly looking in the right places.
Rated at £30m however, it is expected that the Seagulls could be priced out of a move, given that their record transfer stands at just £18m.
As such, it gives Arteta free rein to swoop in on the high-flying 22-year-old who too is masterminding his side to an unlikely title charge.
His goalscoring exploits in the engine room have proven vital for Arne Slot's outfit, with his role as club captain marking him out as a truly immeasurable figure for his age.
The 5 foot 9 magician has recorded 12 goals and eight assists in all competitions this season, not too dissimilar from Xhaka's seven goals and five assists with both proving themselves to be well-rounded attacking assets.
granit-xhaka-arsenal-Orkun-Kokcu-transfer
However, what sets Kokcu apart from the rest is when he is compared to other midfielders across Europe's 'next 8 best competitions'. Within this sphere, he ranks in the top 1% for shot-creating actions and progressive passes, the top 4% for progressive carries, and the top 2% for total shots, via FBref.
It is no wonder that former Liverpool midfielder Mohamed Sissoko, when asked about his style of play, said the following: "I get unbalanced and answer Modric, for me he has the same quality of play. He has the potential to reach his level."
This outstanding praise is just a mere testament to the huge potential of the Feyenoord star, who clearly already boasts that attacking impetus that Xhaka has found of late.
His signing could prove to be the perfect acquisition to phase out the Swiss cult hero in favour of a younger, more dynamic model for whom the sky really is the limit.
Newcastle United are reportedly interested in signing Manchester City youngster Taylor Harwood-Bellis in the summer transfer window.
Is Harwood-Bellis having a good season?
The 21-year-old is currently out on loan at Burnley and he has enjoyed an impressive spell there this season, helping the Clarets lie on the verge of a return to the Premier League. He has started 27 games in the Championship since arriving from the Etihad, being given plenty of minutes by City legend Vincent Kompany, who is excelling in charge.
This is invaluable experience for Harwood-Bellis, who has averaged 3.1 aerial duel wins and 2.5 clearances per game in the league in 2022/23 to date, as he looks to reach his potential as a highly rated centre-back. It is clearly going to be difficult for the Englishman to make the grade at City, however, with the Premier League champions having a wealth of top-quality options in that area, from Ruben Dias to Nathan Ake.
For that reason, Harwood-Bellis – whose current deal expires in the summer of 2024 – could look for a new challenge at the end of this season and leave the Citizens permanently in the summer, and a fresh exit rumour has now emerged.
Could the youngster head to Newcastle this summer?
According to 90min, Newcastle are "one of a number of Premier League clubs showing a strong interest" in Harwood-Bellis ahead of the summer window. City are believed to have plans in place "to hold extension talks at the end of the season", although it remains to be seen if he will want to sign a new deal.
It is claimed that the youngster "recognises he is some way down the pecking order" under Pep Guardiola, which is why joining another club could make more sense.
While Harwood-Bellis is clearly a big talent for City to have in their ranks – Kompany has called him "incredible" – it could be best for his development to move on at the end of the season. Granted, if he is happy to sign a new contract and be a bit-part player, that would be no great issue as far as City are concerned, but there is the risk that this would stunt his progress.
He has shown this season what an effective player he can be when given a chance, even at just 21, and in order to match his promise, he needs to be a regular starter for a team from this point onwards.
Tottenham Hotspur making a move for Brendan Rodgers wouldn't be a surprise, but his appointment would not go down well with the supporters, according to journalist Ryan Taylor.
Who could Tottenham appoint as new manager?
Tottenham have identified a number of targets to replace Antonio Conte, and they have now set their sights firmly on Julian Nagelsmann, cementing the former Bayern Munich boss as their number one target, as per Football Insider.
However, having recently been sacked by Leicester City, Rodgers has also emerged as a potential option for Spurs, with Michail Antonio saying the Northern Irishman would be an "unbelievable" appointment and claiming "it would definitely work."
Alan Hutton has suggested Tottenham fans "would love" the 50-year-old to take over as manager, due to his attractive brand of football, however Taylor has a very different viewpoint, while he has recently relayed to GiveMeSport.
The journalist hinted that Spurs could appoint the former Leicester boss when asked of their chances, but he also says it wouldn't be popular as a result of the Foxes' severe drop off.
Taylor explained:
"It wouldn't surprise you, but I think Brendan's stock has fallen so drastically in the past 18 months and I think that would be an appointment that wouldn't be received well at Tottenham, even though it probably would have been a decent move. It wasn't long ago when he was at Leicester and flying, back-to-back fifth finishes and an FA Cup; because of that, the likes of Arsenal and Newcastle we're looking at him. It's crazy how football changes; it's such a fickle sport because, suddenly, nobody's interested in Brendan Rodgers."
Should Tottenham appoint Brendan Rodgers?
Man City boss Pep Guardiola has praised the manager as "top quality", and he has definitely earned that description with some of his achievements throughout his career.
While success is expected as manager of Celtic, the Carnlough-born manager won the league in emphatic fashion, amassing an incredible 106 points in the 2016-17 season.
Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers
That said, Rodgers left Leicester in the relegation zone upon his sacking, despite having players like James Maddison and Harvey Barnes at his disposal, which will be a real concern for chairman Daniel Levy.
As such, Tottenham should instead focus on other options this summer, and Nagelsmann, who was hailed for his "elite coaching" during his time with RB Leipzig would be a very exciting appointment, should they manage to beat Chelsea, who are also interested, to his signature,
While much of the focus at Manchester United this summer will be on those who could arrive through the door, a priority for the Red Devils will also be to shift players on, as manager Erik ten Hag seeks to continue his impressive rebuild at the club.
After the lack of authority that was shown during the Ole Gunnar Solskjaer era – with the Norwegian dubbed a 'soft touch' according to players in the squad – it would appear that the new man at the helm is keen to be ruthless this summer by sparking something of a mass exodus at Old Trafford.
As per the Daily Mail, there could be as many as 13 players who are moved on by the top-four hopefuls ahead of next season, with Ten Hag keen to rid the dressing room of the remnants of the previous regime.
As per the report, there are a handful of Solskjaer's signings who could well be set for pastures new this summer, with that an apparent acceptance that United are keen to move away from life under the treble winner.
Man United's Ole Gunnar Solskjaer
The belief is that among the current first-team squad – excluding Alex Telles who is currently out on loan at Sevilla and Facundo Pellistri who is only likely to leave on a temporary deal – three players who were signed by the club's previous permanent manager could be set to leave, with Donny van de Beek, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and club captain Harry Maguire all facing uncertain futures at the club.
Although that trio are not the only notable figures who could be shown the door, it is telling of their woes that they are already set for the scrap heap, despite having been signed either in 2020 or 2019, respectively, during Solskjaer's reign.
For many supporters, it may well be a blessing to see those three men line up elsewhere next season, particularly when considering the notable burden of their wages – as well as their exorbitant initial transfer fees.
Will Van de Beek leave Man United this summer?
In the case of Van de Beek, first and foremost, it will come as little surprise to most that the 25-year-old could be among those to depart, with the Netherlands international having endured a wretched time of it at the Theatre of Dreams to date.
Having been signed on a rather hefty £40m deal back in the summer of 2020, the former Ajax ace has never been able to establish himself as a regular fixture in the side, with just 23 of his 60 appearances for the club having come from the start.
While in recent months the Dutchman's impact has been limited after sustaining a season-ending injury back in January, prior to that the playmaker had hardly set the world alight despite reuniting with his former boss, after failing to provide a single goal involvement in ten outings in all competitions.
Man United's Van de Beek
A run of three successive starts in all competitions in early November had been a potential last-chance saloon for the struggling dud, although the 19-cap midfielder was hooked around the hour mark in each of those outings, having done little to warrant a further look-in.
As journalist Samuel Luckhurst stated amid that rare streak of starts, deploying Van de Beek in the side simply "doesn't work", with it perhaps time that a departure is secured – with a return to Ajax having been mooted.
That possible exit would allow United to get the £120k-per-week man's salary off their books, with the peripheral figure set to have cost the club around £6.2m in wages just this season alone by the end of the campaign, as per FBref.
The England duo of Maguire and Wan-Bissaka have also been something of a financial strain of late, with the former having cost around £9.8m by the end of the campaign in wages, while the latter man has come at a cost of £4.6m – totalling £20.6m between the three men for the 2022/23 season.
Will Man United sell Maguire?
In truth, in the case of Maguire, the £190k-per-week man has hardly warranted that salary amid his limp displays this season, with the 30-year-old having been branded "woeful" by pundit Lianne Sanderson earlier in the campaign.
As ex-Liverpool man Jamie Carragher noted back in September, it looks as if it is 'too late' for the former Leicester City ace to save his United career, despite having the chance to enjoy an extended run in the side due to the injury woes of Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane.
Man United's Harry Maguire
The £80m man – who has started just seven Premier League games this season – can seemingly do little right at present having scored an unfortunate own goal in the draw with Sevilla last week, while also enduring a shaky start in the weekend win over Nottingham Forest, after picking up an early booking and somewhat escaping giving away a penalty for handball.
It does appear that it would be best for all parties if the ailing skipper is handed a fresh start elsewhere, even if there are reported fears that the centre-back's wage demands could prove a stumbling block in getting him off the books.
Where will Wan-Bissaka be next season?
If the future of both Van de Beek and Maguire does appear rather clear cut, in the case of Wan-Bissaka there may be those who would be keen to see the former Crystal Palace man stay put, having enjoyed a real resurgence of late.
After playing just four minutes in all competitions prior to the World Cup break, the 25-year-old has since been a far more regular fixture under Ten Hag, with 25 appearances to his name across all fronts.
The Croydon-born ace notably produced a "monstrous" display in the Carabao Cup final win over Newcastle United, as per the Daily Express' Alex Turk, with that fine, second-half cameo a real showcase of his remarkable revival.
That being said, however, it was not too long ago that the full-back looked destined for an exit heading into the January window, with The Athletic only recently reporting that the Red Devils could be open to a sale, if a more attacking option can be secured this summer.
As Wan-Bissaka's recent, horrific miss against Everton showcased, the one-time Selhurst Park starlet is still something of a liability in attack, having scored just twice and registered only 11 assists in 151 games across all fronts.
Man United's Aaron Wan-Bissaka
That is a rather measly record, indeed, hence the suggestion that the right-back could be part of this summer's mass departure, calling time on his almost four-year stay in Manchester.
For United to potentially cash in on the £50m man – as well as both Maguire and Van de Beek – would be a poor reflection on Solskjaer's transfer judgement, with those three men having cost around £170m with regard to their transfer fees.
That eye-watering sum is a perfect encapsulation of the scattergun and erratic recruitment drive that has hampered United in the post-Sir Alex Ferguson era.
Perhaps, under Ten Hag, the future landscape can look rather different…

Liverpool could be set for a complete squad overhaul this summer following a tumultuous season and now a new update has emerged on a potential transfer target.
What's the latest on Liverpool's interest in Evan Ndicka?
According to journalist Pete O'Rourke, Liverpool are preparing a contract offer for out-of-contract Eintracht Frankfurt star Evan Ndicka.
As per his transfer column for Football Insider, O'Rourke claims that Liverpool have cooled their interest in Josko Gvardiol and will instead target Ndicka who is also being pursued by fellow Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur ahead of the summer transfer window.
It is further suggested that the Reds are keen to get a deal done quickly as the £20k-per-week centre-back possesses qualities that make him the perfect profile to fit into Jurgen Klopp's team.
Will Liverpool sign Evan Ndicka this summer?
There is no doubt that the poor defensive performances put on this season have played a huge part in Liverpool's struggle to maintain their high standards both domestically and in Europe too.
The Merseyside giants crashed out of the Champions League round of 16 after conceding six goals over two legs against their European rivals Real Madrid and it hasn't been much better in the Premier League either.
Last season, Liverpool tallied up a whopping 20 clean sheets in the top flight, which led to Alisson Becker sharing the Golden Glove award with Manchester City's Ederson.

However, in 2022/23 so far they have only managed 11 clean sheets, conceding 12 more goals than last term (26) already with seven games remaining, which is a damning indictment of the situation that the club has found themselves in – currently nine points adrift of a Champions League qualifying spot inside the top four.
As a result, the signing of Ndicka could be the perfect opportunity to bolster the back four with a huge presence, as the 6 foot 4 centre-back boasts a number of similarities to his fellow Frenchman, Ibrahima Konate.
When comparing the positional peers' output this season, they have come close in a number of important defensive attributes.
First and foremost, they are both astute at bringing the ball out from the back, boasting pass completion rates of 86.1% for Ndicka and 87.7% for Konate.
They are no slouches defensively either, racking up a similar number of tackles and interceptions (51 v 48), tackling a comparative number of dribblers successfully (53.6% v 54.2%) and winning a likeminded number of aerial duels (63.2 v 70.7%).
Ndicka has been the recipient of high praise since bursting on the scene with Frankfurt and German journalist Christopher Michel gave an insight into the defender's qualities in an interview with ChronicleLive last summer:
"For a central defender, Ndicka is extremely goal-threatening. He has ten goals and nine assists in 135 competitive games. That's enormous. His opening with his left foot is good, he is strong with his header and fast."
"His big weakness is that he sometimes switches off too early and recognises dangerous moments too late. But Ndicka brings an exciting complete package. A great defender!"
With that being said, if the powerbrokers at Anfield can tempt Ndicka with a move to Merseyside this summer, it would be a fantastic opportunity to add more options for Klopp over next season.

Manchester United are now the "front runners" to sign PSG right-back
Achraf Hakimi this summer, according to Football Insider.
Will Manchester United sign a right-back?
The Red Devils looked almost certain to be in the market for a right-back earlier this season, with Sky Sports revealing the club were open to offers for Aaron Wan-Bissaka almost as soon as Erik ten Hag arrived at the club.
The Dutchman clearly preferred Diogo Dalot in that position, and although the former Crystal Palace starlet has forced his way back in during recent weeks, the manager may well stick to his guns and hunt for a more comfortable ball-playing full-back this summer.
Manchester United defender Diogo Dalot.
Reports in March claimed Old Trafford chiefs could actually attempt so swap Dalot for Netherlands star Denzel Dumfries, and now it seems Hakimi is on the transfer shortlist as well.
According to FI, United have moved ahead of Chelsea in the race to sign Hakimi due to the fact that the Blues will not be able to offer Champions League football. Both teams are "prepared to move for the 24-year-old defender at the end of the season after Paris Saint-Germain made it clear that they are open to offers", but it is the M16 outfit who are currently out in front and willing to meet his £60m price tag.
Would Hakimi be a good signing for Man United?
The Morocco international, currently earning £172k-p/w in Paris, certainly has what it takes to inject a bit more end product than has been provided by Dalot and Wan-Bissaka, racking up nine direct goal involvements in 36 appearances in all competitions this season.
For comparison, Aaron Wan-Bissaka only has 13 goal contributions during his whole career at Old Trafford.
According to FBRef, he ranks highly across Europe's top leagues in terms of important attacking metrics like assists, progressive passes, carries and succesful take-ons, drawing praise as a world-class player from legendary full-back Dani Alves.
The defender has however recently been the subject of a bizarre story involving his personal life, with everyone from UFC superstars to controversial social media personality Andrew Tate praising his actions in an apparent divorce settlement, while other rumours swirl suggesting the entire saga has been fabricated.
Still, assuming that cloud over his personal life is nothing serious enough to affect his actions on the pitch, Hakimi looks like he would be an excellent signing to really kick-start Ten Hag's new era at Manchester United.
