Rangers transfer news on Morelos

BBC journalist Fraser Fletcher has revealed some Glasgow Rangers transfer news that he has now been ‘told’ from Ibrox on Alfredo Morelos.

The Lowdown: Uncertain future

With only a year left on his contract, Morelos now faces an uncertain future with the Gers.

He has been linked with a move away from the club this summer, with Sunderland striker Ross Stewart thought to be a potential replacement for the Colombia international.

The Latest: No offers

Taking to Twitter, Fletcher has revealed that interest in Morelos is ‘high’, although no offers have been put on the table for him as of yet, and the Teddy Bears want him to stay put:

“My sources tell me interest in Alfredo Morelos is high but no offers on table. I’m also told Rangers want him to stay at the club as his deal reaches its last year.”

The Verdict: Keep!

The Light Blues really need to be keeping hold of Morelos at all costs, and that means giving him the new contract that he deserves.

He was their top scorer in all competitions last season with a total of 19 goals, and has generally been a goal-scoring machine since stepping foot in Scotland.

The striker is still only 25 years of age as well, and so has not even reached his prime yet.

Thus, Morelos needs to be tied down as soon as possible, at the risk of losing him for a transfer fee that does not represent his true worth.

West Ham: Moyes could now be offered Barkley

West Ham United manager David Moyes may now be offered the chance to sign Premier League attacker Ross Barkley from Chelsea, according to reports.

The Lowdown: Hammers keep moving…

Nayed Aguerd’s signing from Rennes, as per a report from Sky Sports journalist Dharmesh Sheth, could just be the tip of the iceberg for Moyes and club head of recruitment Rob Newman this summer.

Indeed, according to his sources, the east Londoners are plotting far more additions, specifically ‘at least’ six of them, with Sheth tipping West Ham to be ‘very busy’.

However, that is not to say other side’s won’t attempt to poach the Irons’ star players, with 90min sharing a development involving star man Declan Rice and Barkley.

The Latest: Chelsea plot part-exchange…

According to the report, English top flight giants Chelsea have made a fresh approach for Rice which has been swiftly rebuffed – but they could come back with a part-exchange offer.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/west-ham-latest-updates-2/” title=”West Ham latest updates!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

Indeed, it is believed that Thomas Tuchel’s side may now give West Ham the chance to sign Barkley and striker target Armando Broja to test their resolve.

The Verdict: Should they consider it?

Rice is simply far too valuable to consider letting him go for the sake of Broja and Barkley.

This goes especially for the latter man, who barely featured over 2021/22 and started just one league game.

The £110,000-per-week midfielder, described as an ‘enigma’ by journalist Phil McNulty, actually enjoyed a fairly productive spell in parts out on loan at Aston Villa over 2020/2021. There does appear to be ability remaining in Barkley’s locker after former West Ham manager Harry Redknapp said he ‘has everything’.

However, going by his very limited minutes over this last year, his signing could be seen as a huge gamble, and GSB should be telling their London rivals to stump up Rice’s huge asking price or leave.

Tottenham: Eccleshare makes ‘exciting’ Richarlison claim

Tottenham Hotspur journalist Charlie Eccleshare of The Athletic has now shared a ‘most exciting’ update involving the Lilywhites and Everton striker Richarlison.

The Lowdown: Spurs prepare…

Looking to build upon manager Antonio Conte’s top four finish in the Premier League last year, Spurs and transfer chief Fabio Paratici have taken to the summer market with real intent.

Having confirmed three major signings already, securing deals for Ivan Perisic, Fraser Forster and Yves Bissouma, the club are aiming to agree even more before Conte’s 2022/2023 pre-season begins.

Tottenham have apparently earmarked the possible additions of a right-wing-back, central defensive star and forward as priority next moves with Eccleshare now sharing what he knows on Richarlison.

The Latest: Eccleshare makes Richarlison claim…

The reliable journalist claims Tottenham and Paratici may well be in pole position to sign the Brazil international amid an ‘exciting’ update.

He explained, when commenting on the club’s summer deals (via Twitter):

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/tottenham-latest-developments-2/” title=”Tottenham latest updates” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

“The furthest along + most exciting is Richarlison: discussions are progressing + advanced. Spurs favourites despite other interest.”

The Verdict: Massive…

As per WhoScored, it’s seriously little surprise pundits like ex-Leeds United striker Noel Whelan have branded the 25-year-old one of Everton’s ‘big name’ players.

Indeed, the South American star racked up their most goals and shots at goal last season whilst finishing the 21/22 campaign as their best-performing player by average match rating.

Spurs being in pole position to sign Richarlison comes as yet another promising update after an already brilliant transfer window for supporters – and if reports are to be believed – yet more could follow.

Spurs: Paratici plotting Gimenez bid

Tottenham Hotspur are interested in a deal to bring Jose Maria Gimenez to the Premier League this summer.

What’s the talk?

That’s according to a report by Uruguayan media outlet Tenfield, who claim that Fabio Paratici is now plotting a bid for the Atletico Madrid centre-back – whom Diego Simeone is reported to have given the green light to leave the Wanda Metropolitano this summer, as long as he were to receive an offer in the region of €60m (£52m) for the defender.

However, Tenfield go on to state that Tottenham are not alone in their pursuit of the 27-year-old, with both Chelsea and Manchester United also believed to be keeping a close eye on the situation of the Uruguay international ahead of a potential move of their own.

Romero clone

Considering just how impressive Gimenez has been for Atleti ever since his arrival from Danubio FC all the way back in the summer of 2013, it is easy to see why Paratici appears keen on a deal to add the centre-back to Antonio Conte’s defensive arsenal ahead of Tottenham’s 2022/23 campaign.

Indeed, the £45m-rated talent has earned seasonal SofaScore match ratings of 7.00 or above in six of his last seven LaLiga campaigns for Simeone’s outfit, with the only time the 27-year-old averaged a score lower than this number coming in 2019/20 – when which he still earned an extremely impressive rating of 6.99.

[snack-amp-story url= “https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-the-latest-spurs-news-transfer-rumours-gossip-much-more” title= “Read the latest Spurs news, transfer rumours and more!”]

The £82k-per-week defender has also been a constant force for Atletico in the Champions League, earning eye-catching SofaScore match ratings of 7.30 in 2015/16, 7.42 in 2016/17, 7.08 in 2018/19 and 7.20 in 2020/21 – having never dropped below a seasonal rating of 6.81 over his last seven campaigns in Europe’s most prestigious club competition.

Furthermore, there are very clear comparisons that can be drawn between the Uruguayan who Jose Luis Perez Caminero claimed is a “natural talent, a fast defender who uses the ball well, a good marker and classy on the ball” and Tottenham’s own Cristian Romero – the 24-year-old who stunned the Spurs faithful with his remarkable performances after his arrival from Atalanta last summer.

With the Argentina international being a tough-tackling defender who is adept at bringing the ball out from the back as well as possessing an eye for a line-breaking pass, Gimenez is very much a centre-back in the same mould as Romero – with the 27-year-old being particularly astute with his progressive passes.

Indeed, according to FBref, over the course of his club career, Gimenez has completed an average of 37.1 passes, covered 282.5 yards with progressive passes and 79.3 yards with the ball at his feet, won 1.28 tackles and made 1.45 interceptions per 90.

Meanwhile, also according to FBref, Romero has completed an average of 41.2 passes, covered 259.5 yards via progressive passes and 110.8 yards with the ball at his feet, won 2.73 tackles and made 2.28 interceptions per 90 over the course of his own club career.

As such, should Paratici manage to get a deal for the “outstanding defensive talent” – in the words of David Cartlidge – over the line ahead of Chelsea and United this summer, it is clear to see that the Italian sporting director could well have unearthed his next Romero at Tottenham – a prospect that is sure to excite both the Spurs faithful and Conte alike.

Leeds: UOL reveal Raphinha transfer twist

Raphinha could yet remain a Leeds United player heading into 2022/23.

What’s the talk?

That’s according to a report by Brazilian publication UOL (via Sport Witness), who claim that, despite the interest of both Barcelona and Chelsea in a £60m move for the 25-year-old, there is now a realistic possibility that the winger could remain a part of Jesse Marsch’s side beyond the end of the summer transfer window.

The report goes on to state that, due to the Brazil international’s preference for a move to the LaLiga side – who are, at present, yet to agree a fee with the Whites regarding a deal for the forward – Raphinha could well travel to Australia with the rest of the Leeds squad on the 10th of July for their pre-season tour.

Supporters will be buzzing

Considering just how impressive Raphinha has been for Leeds since his £17m move to LS11 back in October of 2020, in addition to the fact that the Brazilian is very much one of the supporters’ favourites at Elland Road, the suggestion that the winger could yet remain with Marsch’s side heading into the new Premier League campaign is sure to have left the Leeds faithful buzzing.

Indeed, over his 30 Premier League appearances in his debut campaign, the £40.5m-rated talent was in electric form for the Whites, scoring six goals, registering nine assists and creating 12 big chances for his teammates, as well as taking an average of 2.2 shots, making 2.1 key passes and completing 1.9 dribbles per game.

[snack-amp-story url= “https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-the-latest-leeds-united-news-transfer-rumours-gossip-and-much-more-2″ title=”Read the latest Leeds news, transfer rumours and more!”]

These returns saw the 25-year-old average an incredibly impressive SofaScore match rating of 7.14, not only ranking him as Marcelo Bielsa’s second-best outfielder in the league but also as the joint 30th-best performer in the division as a whole.

The £63k-per-week forward once again caught the eye over his 35 top-flight outings in 2021/22, bagging 11 goals, providing three assists and creating ten big chances for his teammates, as well as taking an average of 2.5 shots, making 1.9 key passes and completing 1.8 dribbles per fixture.

These metrics saw the former Stade Rennais starlet earn a SofaScore match rating of 6.97, ranking him as Marsch’s second-best outfielder in the league – playing a starring role in the Whites securing their Premier League status last season.

As such, considering the fact that Victor Orta has already secured a number of impressive signings in the summer transfer window – including the likes of Brenden Aaronson, Rasmus Kristensen, Marc Roca, Tyler Adams and Luis Sinisterra – the prospect of Raphinha linking up with this glut of new talent next season is sure to be an incredibly tantalising one for Leeds supporters – with UOL’s latest update sure to have delighted everyone involved with the club.

Arsenal submit Alejandro Grimaldo bid

Arsenal have submitted a bid to Benfica for Spanish left-back Alejandro Grimaldo as they look to bolster their defensive options.

What’s the story?

According to Portuguese newspaper A Bola, the Gunners have made a proposal of €7m (£5.9m) for the defender who is entering the last year of his contract at the club.

He is rated at £18m by Transfermarkt so if Arsenal can secure his services for less than half that price then it would be a huge bargain for the club.

It’s not the first time he has been linked with a move to the north London side, he was rumoured as a possible replacement for Nacho Monreal in 2019 but a move never materialised.

He’s what Arteta needs

The move comes with the club potentially willing to offload another player they signed from Benfica in Nuno Tavares. The 22-year-old joined the Gunners last summer but are now happy to let the player leave.

It means manager Mikel Arteta is in need of a back-up to Kieran Tierney which is why the club have submitted an offer for Grimaldo. Supporters will be hoping that this time buying a left-back from Benfica will turn out more successful than the aforementioned Tavares who has had a rather topsy-turvy spell at the Emirates.

The Spaniard made 29 appearances in Liga Portugal last season, assisting five goals and creating 13 big chances, proving that he can be a big threat going forward.

Having also scored some insane goals during his career, showcasing his attacking potential, Mootaz Chehade has described him as “special” while comparing him to a certain Roberto Carlos.

He’s an expert at finding the right pass with a crazy accuracy percentage of 85% per game but importantly, Grimaldo can offer real competition in his position and really push Tierney all the way. Thus, it’s a move that makes sense given the price tag too.

It’s not just going forward where he impresses though, defensively he’s a match for the Scotsman making 20 more tackles last season which resulted in his team winning possession of the ball.

Signing him rather than spending big on a replacement for Tavares will allow Arteta to invest more in other areas which is likely to result in more success on the pitch.

The Gunners’ ambitions for next season will be to get back into the Champions League, and Grimaldo can help them do that by providing good competition and improving their options.

Nottingham Forest bid for Marcus Tavernier

Nottingham Forest have shown no signs of slowing down in the transfer window with seven signings already completed this summer, and now the club could be about to make their eighth.

What’s the latest?

According to The Daily Mail, Nottingham Forest have submitted a £10m bid for Middlesbrough gem Marcus Tavernier.

As per the report, the club has joined the chase for the winger’s signature this summer, with AFC Bournemouth also tabling an offer and both clubs are now waiting for an answer from Middlesbrough.

Big Colback upgrade

Despite already sealing many new signings already, Steve Cooper hasn’t been able to acquire any fresh faces to bolster the midfield and Tavernier could definitely be a big Jack Colback upgrade if Forest’s bid is accepted this summer.

Tavernier can be an effective goal threat from many positions in the midfield and has proved his versatility over the last season with Boro, playing central, left and right in the middle of the park.

Over 44 Championship appearances last season, the 23-year-old scored five goals, delivered five assists and created eight big chances, as well as making an average of 1.6 key passes, 2.2 tackles, winning 5.7 duels and taking two shots per game.

Cooper could really benefit from Tavernier’s playmaking skills in his Forest side, and despite Colback being much better in his defensive play, the Middlesbrough player offers a better attacking threat which could be very useful in the newly-promoted side’s attempts to retain their Premier League status next season.

Tavernier has been the recipient of high praise for his performances and talent in his current team with journalist Anthony Vickers hailing the player a “bright spark”, and former manager Neil Warnock is a big fan of his player too.

Warnock claimed (via Teesside Live): “Tav is a special player. He’s a manager’s nightmare and a manager’s dream all wrapped up into one. But like me, he wants to win. We’re on the same page and I think he’ll have a very good season.”

With that being said, the signing of Tavernier could be a major coup for Cooper if the player can emulate his form and performances in the Premier League with Nottingham Forest.

Celtic must land Antoine Semenyo transfer

Celtic saw a significant number of players moving to Parkhead during last summer’s transfer window.

One man who joined the Hoops during this period is Giorgos Giakoumakis, who signed from VVV-Venlo on a five-year deal worth £2.5m.

Throughout his debut season with the Bhoys, the striker found the net 17 times in 29 appearances across all competitions.

Despite this impressive start to his Celtic career, Ange Postecoglou could use the remaining weeks of the summer transfer window to add some more attacking strength to his squad and give some competition to Giakoumakis for his place in the team.

One player with whom the Premiership champions have been linked previously and who could be a potential upgrade on the 27-year-old is Bristol City striker Antoine Semenyo.

To compare his previous domestic campaign in the Championship with the Celtic star’s debut league season, despite not scoring as many goals (eight) as the Greek centre-forward, Semenyo racked up 11 more assists than him, which suggests that he would be a more creative type of striker than Giakoumakis.

With 30 more crosses delivered than the Hoops marksman, this backs up just how dangerous the Ghanaian can be in an all-round attacking sense rather than being a simple goal-poacher.

Having also made more interceptions and won more tackles than the Celtic striker, Semenyo can also do the hard work when out of possession and looking to win the ball back for his team.

To further highlight what sort of danger the Robins striker could offer to Postecoglou’s side, one shot of his was labelled as a “piledriver” by journalist Math Withers,. That shows the sort of power that the Ghanaian can produce, which would surely make him a terrifying prospect for opposition goalkeepers.

Taking all this into account, it’s safe to say that the 22-year-old certainly has the talent to be an upgrade on Giakoumakis and become an important long-term figure for the Bhoys.

Should the English Championship club be willing to negotiate a deal for their £3.5k-per-week predator this summer, Celtic should do all they can to get him to Parkhead and up to speed with the rest of the players there.

Spurs remain keen on Adama Traore

Tottenham Hotspur remain interested in long-term transfer target Adama Traore…

What’s the word?

That’s according to transfer insider Dean Jones, who revealed to GIVEMESPORT this week that some at the north London outfit view the Wolverhampton Wanderers star as a priority signing.

Spurs narrowly missed out on a move for the Spain international during the January transfer window, with the wide man opting for a temporary return to his boyhood club, FC Barcelona.

Now, sporting director Fabio Paratici could reignite a move for him.

“I think Adama Traore still would have to be considered for that slot. We know how much they liked him. There are people involved in the set-up that really want Adama Traore and even would make him a priority because they think it’d be such a good fit,” the journalist claimed.

[snack-amp-story url= “https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-the-latest-spurs-news-transfer-rumours-gossip-so-much-more” title=”Read the latest Spurs news, transfer rumours and more!”]

Conte would love him

When reports emerged linking Tottenham with a move for the bustling powerhouse in January, it was thought that manager Antonio Conte was keen for him to be the man to resolve their right wing-back woes.

Since then, the club have signed Djed Spence in a £15m deal but both Matt Doherty and Emerson Royal, who were key to the Italian’s worries, remain in N17.

Traore can also play further up the pitch, either as a winger or through the middle, so he offers plenty of versatility and depth, so it’s easy to see why Conte would still be keen on him.

His experience in the Premier League is also a big plus, especially given the praise that he has received in recent times. Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp once deemed him “unplayable”, whilst BT Sport pundit Rio Ferdinand dubbed him a “machine” and suggested that he is built like a brick wall.

“He’s a machine. I was watching him pre-game and he could be a powerlifter or a cruiser-weight boxer – he’s huge,” he said (via Birmingham Mail).

Traore is now thought to be available for just £10m, so he represents even less of a risk than six months ago, seeing as Spurs were close to agreeing on a deal worth double that. Meanwhile, his reported wages of £46k-per-week are relatively cheap when compared to other members of the Lilywhites squad.

One key attribute is his ability on the ball, ranking inside the top 1% of all wingers across Europe for dribbles completed (5.24 per 90), via FBref.

With some members of staff behind-the-scenes ever so keen on Traore still, Conte will surely be delighted as he could well secure another one of his main targets in what would be an exciting seventh signing of the window.

Nottingham Forest want Josh Bowler

Nottingham Forest have now placed Blackpool winger Josh Bowler on their transfer wish list, according to The Sun’s Alan Nixon.

The Lowdown: Bowler profiled

Bowler has previously been on the books of QPR and Everton, with David Unsworth labelling the forward ‘magic’ during his time with the latter.

The 23-year-old signed for Blackpool last year on a free transfer and has impressed in the second tier, scoring seven times and registering three assists in 42 appearances during the previous campaign, taking his goal tally to 15 during his career.

He is already into the final 12 months of his deal with the Seasiders, and it looks as if Forest are now looking at the Englishman as they eye another attacking addition for Steve Cooper.

The Latest: Forest keen on Bowler

According to Nixon for The Sun late on Saturday night, Bowler is on Forest’s radar as they grow frustrated in their pursuit of Wolves’ Morgan Gibbs-White.

The reliable reporter stated in the last 24 hours that the Blackpool ace, who has also been linked with Bournemouth, is hoping that Forest and Evangelos Marinakis come in with an offer before the end of the summer transfer window.

The Verdict: A gamble?

You’d like to think that a transfer wouldn’t involve mega money, with Bowler’s contract running down and a rather modest £1.8m Transfermarkt valuation.

He has only enjoyed one successful full season of senior football, though, struggling during a loan spell with Hull City in 2019/20, netting just once in 31 games for the Tigers.

That indicates that signing him could be a risk, but as mentioned, a potential cut-price fee could twist Forest’s arm into taking a gamble on the right-sided winger – only time will tell.
